Hello everybody. I'm super excited to be purchasing soon, so let's get straight to it.
I need to do photo, video editing & rendering through Adobe's programs. Having a VR ready system is important. I travel often, so the Avon 17.3 inch laptop is what I'm looking to get. I only have a few questions regarding the configuration options for it. What is the difference between the SSD M.2 (1TB Samsung 970 PRO) (NVM Express) (Extreme Performance) and the non-Extreme Performance version? I am looking at getting two 1TB SSDs. Would I be better off with two 1TB Digital Storm M.2 Performance Series SSDs, or maybe a single 2TB Samsung 970 EVO? How is the Digital Storm Screen Calibration? Is 32gb overboard for video editing, recording while gaming, streaming, etc.? Thanks guys! Edited by Raikuden - 21 Jun 2019 at 7:38am |

Welcome to the forum Raikuden !
The Avon is still pretty new for DS, so eventually another Avon user will let you know how they like the new rig. You definitely want the Samsung Evo 1TB M.2 NVME drives over the stock DS SATA III SSD. M.2 NVME SSD drives are 5 times faster than SATA, as they utilize the PCIE bus that video cards use. The Evo Pro will be slightly faster in Read and Write speeds, and may last a little longer than the normal Evo...but I suspect most folks would never detect the difference between the two. Get the size drives 1 & 2 that you require...nice on a laptop to be able to select a 2 TB sized Drive 2 but it is pricey. For video encoding and rendering I would think screen calibration for the fullest Adobe color spectrum would be essential, and 32 GB RAM is pretty standard for that kind of work. Maybe an Avon user will reply that has done calibration on this panel, but calibration should be worthwhile. The NVidia RTX 2070 should handle VR and any gaming very well, and your I7-9750H (6 cores/12 threads) processor should make for a nice and snappy rendering machine. Hope that helps you to decide! Gotta let us know how it all goes for you... |

Thank you so much, HockeyBuck!
I decided to go with the 2TB EVO. So I placed the order earlier and got an error. I contacted DS support and they were absolutely fantastic! They helped me out immensely. There’s a great community here, and I can’t be more excited to get a DS laptop. 😎 |

As a new Avon owner all I can say is this is the best laptop ive ever seen/used. Amazing Chassis, and specs that blow 99% of pcs out of the water (literally tests top 1% performance in the world) also for the price you cant beat it. Ive looked everywhere and now am a dedicated Digital Storm Customer and recommend them to everyone.
