What do you all think of a gaming server that would be hosted by us? What game would everyone be open to play?

I was thinking of a classic, action packed game like Unreal Tournament? Everyone would be able to play it, if they don't have it, it's cheap to get as well:

I definitely think you should go for it. You might even want devote a DS Blog post to it, and share it on Facebook, Twitter, etc. As much as I love the DS forums, they probably wouldn't be enough on their own.

Unreal Tournament would be fine with me. I might not be the best spokesperson though, because I tend to love the older multiplayer games, and just be relatively neutral towards recent ones (referring to FPS).

Even if one isn't a fan of older games, I think there is value in focusing on games that can be had for cheap. For instance, If I had to pay 50$+ for a game I might not buy otherwise, I doubt I'd participate. However, if I could spend 20$ or less, then the chances are far greater I'd check out a DS server.

Oh man, I'm way in.
Unreal Tournament, any of the Quakes, maybe even a rotation of sorts(M, T, W - Unreal Tournament, T, F, S - something else)
 
A BF4 server would be awesome too :D

Perfect. What if we hosted our own BF4 server? This way all customers can play other customers on it.

We'll host it on a very strong dedicated line, 100MB upload/download, high-end server specs. Providing the best low-lag experience.

You guys should really look into dolby axon for your Voip solution. We've been using it since it's launch and its a brilliant communication app.

Back on topic,

With my new rig I'm finally able to play arma 3. I know it's not the easiest game to get into but it is an immensely satisfying experience when played with a good group of people.

Hell, we could even get a dayz squad going since I know at times that is a difficult game to solo.

Thoughts?

I have Ventrillo, Teamspeak, and Mumble for voice coms, of those three I prefer Mumble.

I've had outstanding results with Mumble/Murmur, no experience with Dolby Axon, so I can't offer any insight there.

I'm in for a BF 4 server once the game is released. I just don't get into Beta testing or that stuff, but 31 Oct is just around the corner for the release.

I've used mumble, and it's alright. Ventrilo is ok too. I use raidcall now, and it's fine too. I don't suppose there's a problem with any of them so long as your internet can handle it.

I think it's interesting that our DS Mod posted at 11:32 last night. Apparently he's a junkie like the rest of us :D

 
I use whatever my buddies are using at the time. I'm not opposed to any of them, but if the group i'm playing with on a different game uses a different voice program, it's not a big deal to download it and use it.
 
Alex, are you going to make the server public? Can we invite buddies to play with us on launch night? I like the idea of a DS exclusive server, but I'd hate to play in a ghost town. It might make for good advertising too :)
