The last PC I purchased was from Voodoo. I did so because they offered a leading-edge product with cast iron support. I paid far more than I expected to spend, but got far more than my money's worth. The PC has been my primary for 7 years, and still works flawlessly.
Now that Voodoo has been purchased by HP and redirected, I needed to figure out who would be a logical source for my next PC. After much research, I selected Digital Storm as the most likely to be following in Voodoo's footsteps. I unpacked my system on Christmas afternoon, and have spent the last week using it and gradually moving my records to it as I gained confidence in it.
I started by running an 12-hour torture test, which it passed without a hitch. I then adjusted the configuration to match my preferences (e.g., making the large hard drive D: and the DVD drive E:, instead of vice versa) and started transferring programs and data. All has gone well. It integrated into my Windows Home Server backup environment without a hitch.
I did need to contact customer support twice with questions - one about the process for re-establishing the C: raid when booting from a recovery CD, among other questions, and the other because I'm mechanically challenged (if you doubt that, I had to ask which hole is the HDMI connector, and which was is "up"). In both cases, support responded above and beyond expectations, providing more information than I asked for (all of which was useful) in a timely fashion (same day, which was appropriate since neither issue was urgent).
In short, I'm completely satisfied with my decision thus far. Also, I had been concerned about the impact of the sound reduction package on temperatures; however, I ordered it because sound is a big issue for us. This system is almost inaudible under normal operations (haven't run Crysis or such yet, but am running Dragon Age at 1920x1200 with highest detail and 8xAA), so I'm pleased with that result as well.
Those who built and shipped the box seem to have done very well, indeed, and support has been flawless thus far. And the cleanliness of the installation (no extraneous software) is a great starting point for a new system.
Thank you, DS staff, and best wishes for a happy and prosperous new decade. |
