I bought my Lance laptop around march of 2014. The leading factor in buying from DS was the fact (and i was assured of this by multiple people at digital storm, techs, sales, customer service) that my laptop would be upgradeable with anything that was comercially available and used by DS at the time my laptop was built. So here it is Just over 2 years and some change later and i wanted to upgrade my GPU to the GTX980m, not only am I told I can't get that GPU I'm told I can't get ANY gpu upgrade for my system and that I'd have to buy a new laptop.
What TF is that Sh!t? Is the upgrade factor just an outright lie used as a sales gimick? I do undstand the limitations of upgrading a laptop, but given that the Nvida GPU in my computer isn't the dedicated, I.E.soldered into my motherboard, why can't I get what I was told I could get. This answer seems lazy at best, and down right bullsh*t in reality. I'm very displeased with this company and with this laptop in general. I paid a ton of money for this system and it couldn't even run any games at 30FPS after I got it, and whenever I made multiple compaints about that fact I was told there was nothing I could do outside of an upgrade. So my advice to anyone thinking about buying from this company is to go elsewhere. This is based on my opinion and history with them but you're free to make your own choice. I just hope this review helps people make an educated decision where a couple thousand dollars are involved. Edited by Wrath - 05 Nov 2016 at 9:32pm |

Sorry to hear ,Wrath.
Just my opinion and not taking sides..... I have never bought into Upgradesble with laptops. It's not just DS fault but the way the manufacturers market them. Not even sure they mention upgradable anymore. My reason is... gpu mobile cards are extremely expensive. It is cheaper than a whole new laptop, but still way more money than non mobile. Also, new cards like the gtx 1070, etc , from my understanding, won't fit physically or thermally in older laptops not designed for them. Manufacturers have no incentive to make new cards compatable. When new laptop cards do come out, the older ones disappear pretty quickly, compared to full size. Others will disagree and some have upgraded, but not the norm. |

@Wrath,
I'm sorry to hear about your issue. I completely understand where you are coming from. All of our laptops are based on standard connection ports, such as the MXM slot for graphics cards. However, it's truly up to NVIDIA/AMD on how they design their cards, the way their requirements are, some GPUs will not' simply fit or work. However, that does not mean your laptop is not upgradable. You can change the storage on the unit, memory, etc... Please, feel free to contact me directly via email "[email protected]" and I'll be more than happy to try to find what we can upgrade on the unit for you. |
