No. No, seriously, it won't. There are plausible technical reasons, but the cynic in me believes M$ needed to manufacture reasons for people to move from XP to Vista in the short term.
I have not seen any screen shots in published DX9 vs. DX10 comparisons that would make me want to switch, yet.
So far, the only reason I've found to desire DX10 is that Crysis in multiplayer mode only will be significantly better. There will be differences in the single player game, but I don't see them as significant.
Then there is the whole DX10 vs. DX10.1 fiasco, but that's another story.

Windows XP does not support DX10.
DX10 and DX10.1 are the same thing =\ |

I believe you are wrong, in this case. Current DX10 boards will not be DX10.1 complient.
The real question is will anybody care? I don't expect there to be any games that require DX10.1 compliance for a long time. Edited by Bill the Cat - 19 Sep 2007 at 5:16pm |

The kicker is that MS is trying to get game developers to develop their new games without DX9 support in order to force people to switch to Vista to play the lastest games. The problem is that if they did that, they would be excluding a huge percentage of their potential customers if they did that. The developers, as you can imagine, are reluctant to commit to this, but MS is pushing hard. |

DX9 will be supported by game designers as long as vista drivers prove to be an issue.
Microsoft doesn't want to spend the money to pay every single company to convert to DX10 only.
