hey, I've an old laptop that's been sitting around, and it's made by Dell, blegh. anyways, it's a year old, running Windows XP, 2GBs of RAM, a 1.6Ghz Centrino Duo, and a puny hard drive probably running at 5400RPM. I'm using it instead of my old rig that's currently out for RMA, so you can tell how aggravated I am switching from an i7 to a Centrino Duo Big%20smile. Anyways, the main speed issue that I've sourced out is that the HDD is overloaded, and I decided to go and switch off Paging File the other day, effectively killing Virtual Memory and speeding up things.

The two things I need to ask is one, is this seriously safe? RAM isn't overloaded, but that brings me to my second question.

Windows XP's Task Manager still detects that I'm using Paging File, and my performance monitor that I'm using to detect utilized RAM also detects Paging File. Yes, I checked, it's off in the system settings. Wtf's going on?
