So, in preparation for getting my new system set up so as to squeeze the most performance out of it, I was wondering how people thought the best way to set up their programs was.

I have three hard drives (nothing is raided):

1 - 150 GB Raptor (10000RPM)
2 - 150 GB Raptor (10000RPM)
3 - approx. 120 GB ATA from my old system (7200RPM)

It's pretty clear to me that all my personal files, docs, photos, music, and backups, etc. should go on the slower drive (3).

Should I set up the OS and page file on the first Raptor, with games and programs, as well as any big audio files I'm working on (I'll be using the computer for multitrack recording and sound editing - any of these files I'm actively using need as much performance as possible) on the second Raptor?

Should I set up just the OS on the first Raptor and the page file and everything else on the second?

Or something else? Thanks!

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, but where should I put the page file? Drive 2?

Won't the OS get lonely with 150GB to itself? Anything else I can throw on there without cramping its speed?

Last time I had a rig with two hard drives, this is exactly what I did - OS on drive 1, and then games on drive 2.

You can install all the important apps on the first drive along with the OS without any performance hit. As far as page file, if the 2nd hard drive is faster or equal to the 1st drive, set the page file on the 2nd HDD will improve your performance --- or you can set 2 page file on both HDDs and that will work too. If one HDD is busy Window just use the page file on the other drive.
