I am putting together a new DS rig and at times like these I like to consider my options. Are these things worth having, to store an always-on music library, for example, or as a backup destination? Does it connect to your PC via USB or only to your modem/router? Do any of you run a NAS as part of your DS setup?

I don’t have an NAS or even looked into it, but whether you need one is totally dependent on your own needs. I do my backup pretty simply.....just clone my main drive to another HDD dedicated just for cloning. It’s not a real time backup, but I mainly care about having another drive to boot to in case my OS drive fails, gets corrupted, etc. NAS can be expensive but if your data is worth it or you file share across many platforms then it’s worth it.
