im looking at a rig with these specs.

550w psu
x48 mb
1066mhz of ddr2
8400 oc'd
8800gts
now the question i have is...is this enough power or do i need to go with 620w?

For an almost identical system, I was told by a couple of people at DSO that 550 W was enough as long as you have no plans to ever go Crossfile or add a bunch of disk drives. You didn't mention your HD config. Drives can suck up a lot of power.....
3.6 GHz E6850,       4 GB RAM, GTS 250,   TJ9, Win 7 64-bit
4.4 GHz i7 3930K, 16 GB RAM, GTX 670, 550D, Win 7 64-bit

oh a 250gig and maybe a external down the road. im not sure if ill go crossfire since i will be using a 22". but isnt the psu easy to replace if need be?

They are fairly easy to replace, but hard to wire as neatly as DS does.

Personally, whenever I purchase any electronics I always try to buy a little more than I currently need.  But that's just me.
