I'm definately set on having DSO build me a monster rig, but as I dive deeper into the custom computer world I am becomming fascinated with self-upgrading/modding and other technical feats of computerdom.

Can anyone recommend some websites or books that really go into detail within the technical aspect of computer building/overclocking/upgrading/design.

I'm looking for something to teach me about Tflops and SATA and why 1333mgz is better than 800, without being so in depth it's almost smug.

danke!

You might wanna try what i did, get a basic system that can be improved upon a lot, and do the rest yourself, that way you got a very basic 3 year warrenty on most the basic stuff, and you got the flexability to pick and choose what you really want later on

I mean my first system started out with 2GB 1333 ram, 1000W PS and only 1 GX2, no sound card, no speakers, look at it now. lol...

keep one thing in mind, espeically in todays market
you need to know what youre getting into before you hit GO becuase if you build your own it may be cheaper up front but you will NOT have someone to call and ask for help or an RMA, on a little brighter side, you also need to be careful of what you spend and why... the tech world will continue to release stronger sh*t by the day that will really start hitting your wallet heavily if you try and stay with the curve

We need to work on your definition of "basic" Sunfighter. LOL

I do agree with SF about owning a system and improving it being the best way to learn. Books are great, so is the internet, but when you get right down to brass tacks nothing can match hands on practical experience.

i really feel like the best source of information on stuff like this is forums, there are plenty of savants out there who you can pick up TONS of information from. theres a lot here, but in the realms of overclocking theres a lot to be said for overclock.net, OCC, and hardOCP

lol I ment basic as in what level you want your computer to be at. My basic level was a single graphic card, no sound card, 1000W PS, and 2GB of basic DDR3. As you can see...a lot has changed.
