I hear that with a 1GB video card and no memory mapping, a 4GB system will only run at around 2-2.5GB due to 1GB going to the reserved area of your video card and the other 0.5-1GB going to other stuff your computer needs. The same could be subtracted for any other video card. ( i.e. a 512MB card making you end up with 2.5-3GB left ).

Thanks.

2^32 = 4,294,967,296 (4 GB)

2^64 = 16 EB

I hope that makes sense to you...

What Sky is trying to say is, a 64 bit system can reference more memory than current technology will allow you to install in a home computer of any sort.

I run my 64 bit vista system with 8 GB of DDR2 and it references it all just fine. I see and can use all 8 Gigs and also have dual 9800GTX (another megabyte of reserverd space, plus windows overhead, but because 64 bit has room to build a memory reference table that can reference exobytes of data (more data than all the books in the library of congress hold I might add) it has no problem letting me use all 8 Gigabytes of installed system memory.

My system if I loaded up in 32 bit mode would have well under 3 gigs of memory as its maximum available.
