Hello, I recently purchased my ODE Level 1 two weeks ago, and my friends tell me that overclocking will wear off?
Is that true? sorry i'm kinda a computer learner still here.

Oh, I forgot as well, I play minecraft a lot on my ODE level 1 and I only get around 150-350 fps, but my friend who has a dreadnought gets around 3,000 fps.

I'm wondering does overclocking take time to kick in?

thanks!

Oh also, my friends tell me as well that overclocking will decrease my computer's life, and then after some time, fry my computer up.

Everything worry's me you see, hahahha

I have 6 fans in my ODE Level 1 and thinking about upgrading to liquid cooling just for that reason.

But will overclocking fry my computer?

First off, thank you for choosing Digital Storm and welcome to the forums! Overclocking will not simply just wear off, if you remove the overclock by clearing the BIOS settings, you can reload the overclock profile, but, it will not go away over time. Your specs may be different than your friend's whom may be getting a higher FPS, if you can list his specs and yours, we can compare them side by side. Overclocking doesn't really take time to "kick-in" it should be there when your system needs it.

Overclocking should not decrease your computers life as long as it's done right. If we shipped it from our facility, your system should have zero issues for at least 10 years with the way it is overclocked. You don't need to worry, especially with than ODE pre-built system, we take the guess work out and make sure our customers receive an awesome system. You don't really need liquid cooling for your system.

Your system should already be configured properly to run great.

CalebODEman....try downloading, you and your friend to each Pc, FRAPS, and run it in the background with BF3,minecraft,etc. For an accurate compare. I never heard of 3000 fps but I could be wrong.   I don't have FRAPS link where I am so just search. ENJOY the ODE!!

Downloading and running EVGA precision will allow you to monitor all your GPU info while in game in real time. I personally have mine display GPU temp, fan speed, VRAM usage and FPS. Also out of game I have it display my GPU temp down on my task bar.

I recommend to always have precision when using an EVGA brand GPU.

Hi CalebODEman,

Unless you have an equivalent system you should not expect similar results. Does he have a single 570 1.2Gb GPU like you have? Are you both operating at the same CPU speeds? Do you have identical monitors? If not, you won't get the same results. However, if you are getting 150fps that is way, way more fps than you need to play your game smoothly. It seems you are in competition about who has the best system. You should be in competition about who plays the game the best.

Let’s face it, you bought a very good computer at a very good price. But, it is a compromise system between performance and cost. You friend bought a custom computer and unless you both have the same equipment, the results will be different. Even if you computers are identical in every respect, in regards to equipment, the results will vary to some extent.

Bottom line is you don't need better performance for the game you are playing.

Frank

I agree with FrankW in regards to paying to much attention to numbers, as not only is 150fps more than good in every situation, loads of other factors such as background tasks also apply that could be bogging something down.

Having said that little tidbit, make sure you have the "Perfomance: Max FPS" setting chosen in Options > Video Settings, within Minecraft itself. I haven't played Minecraft in awhile, but changing that to max FPS literally added 2500+ FPS. Not that I could tell any difference between that and the 500 I was getting. Minecraft's FPS system is terribly borked in my opinion anyways, and if you are playing smooth, I would really not worry about it Hahaha

The only way your cpu would get fried is if its not done right or your vcore is too high.

if your vcore is below 1.4 your cpu will out live your pc.

If your monitor is a 60Hz monitor then anything above 60fps is pretty much pointless and will not be noticed much if at all.
