ive been wanting to upgrade for awhile now specs are:

p67 asus deluxe
i7 2600k @ 4.3
noctua d14
corsair-hx psu 1000w
corsair mem 8 gigs
WD 1tb
evga sli 570's 1.2 gig
win7 home premium

been looking to upgrade my cards to the msi twin frozr 680's 4g version: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127695

i have a few questions regarding these cards, first will my power supply be able to handle 2 of these? and will there be enough room for 2?

i also was looking to upgrade my memory to 16gigs was either looking at kingston hyper x predator series :http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104329&Tpk=KHX21C11T2K2%2f16X

or the corsair dominator platinum, prolly will go w/ the corsair but idk yet seeing tht i have the d14 to worry about, but it only rlly covers the first slot on the mb, atm my memory is in the second and fourth slot so maybe it would work?

regarding my OS, will i have to upgrade my OS also if im upping my memory to 16 gigs, and vram on the cards?

one last question to the forum guru's, i rlly wanna change the fans on the noctua d14, tht baige color has gotten old, i was curious if i could get some blue led replacement fans to match my color scheme tht would be nice i think, would rlly add to the setup

anyways tyvm DS rig is still kicking ass, hopefully these upgrades will keep it tht way for a little bit longer

Hey Aka. I'm not sure about a few of your questions, but here are the ones that I know:

Your power supply will be more than good enough. As for space, I believe that there will be room for both, but I don't know.

Assuming that that is 64 bit Home Premium, you will not need to upgrade.

Also, if you go with ram with tall heat spreaders make sure your case is wide enough if you have to offset, away from the mobo, the inside fan.   It could take an added inch or so spacing.

Here's a fan to consider and the review of them.  Not a colored blade but 3 different colored rings that look good.

thnx bpratt for the fast response.

good to know about the OS, one less thing to upgrade

i rlly like those msi cards, something different from the stock coolers i think im going to go with. they where the only ones i could find at 4gig cuz im runnin at 2560x1440 forgot to mention on my original post. and also have the HAF x another thing i forgot to mention.

regarding the memory i think i understand what ur sayin about the offset, with the current modules i have in there now id say its a little less thn an inch of space between the fan and the module idk if tht would be enough room if the new ram will be thincker, most likely it will...could it be possible to run the ram in slots 3 and 4? instead of 2 and 4?

replacing the noctua fans is something i rlly dont have to do but would like to, might just give those corsairs a try thnx 4 the link

another upgrade i was thinking was adding a blu ray player u know of any good ones out there, just so many to choose from- thnx again bpratt

If you have an inch now between regular ram sticks and the fan then it will be close with tall heat spreaders.   I would be surprised if they did fit without moving fan out a little.   You have to populate primary slots 1 and 3 first, counting from front to back I believe. They are usually a different color to let ya know.

The tall spreaders look real nice but not needed unless you push ram overclocking.

I never checked out blu-ray players so no help there.

Good luck and have fun.

Yeah the platinum series ram is really not worth the price if this is strictly gaming rig as ram plays little to no effect in gaming

ya if i was to go w/ the dominator ram it would be strictly for the looks cuz thts one sexy looking ram, plus it has like a faint blue accent glow when powered. im tryin to go w/ a blu theme. ive been tryin to find blue led fans or just blue colored fans to replace the ones on the noctua d14. anything blue im opened to suggestions, heard there where coolermaster fans ones on top for the hafx tht come in blue?

goin from slot closest to the cpu, i have slots 2 and 4 populated
and the inch of space is to the left of ram in slot 2 from the fan on the d12 if tht makes sense, its not a inch above

regarding moving the fan i dont see anyway of moving it in like u say, or out in my case.. only possibility i can see is to take it off which isnt really an option

maybe if i find replacement fans, tht are thinner thn the current noctua stock ones tht would add to the inch of clearance to the left of the closest ram tht would solve my issues, guessing tht i dont have enough room atm.

all i know is tht i want a blue theme and if i can find some mushkin ram or kingston blue ram sticks ill prolly end up goin with those (16gig)
another thing if i was to go w/ those msi 680's i need 8 pin connectors which i dont have since im rocking 570's atm, i was thinkin about buying those individual rapped ones in blue if thts a possibility, any1 know of a place tht sells those? i think tht would look pretty sweet

I think slots 2 and 4 from cpu is really slots 1 and 3 as far as mobo is concerned because it counts from the farthest from cpu.

The outside fan on the D14, I think but not 100%, can be mounted offset, meaning higher from mobo to accomodate different ram.    Instead of aligned to the cooling vanes the fan can be mounted so the fan sticks above the cooler on outboard side.    Unclip, shift it up and reclip.     My A70 cooler works like that and allowed taller sticks.

The blue color scheme will look awesome.   Might as well have a nice performing and looking rig.

thnx bpratt,
didnt know tht about the fan of the d12, will have to look into tht thnx for the tip- just figured with the clip being on the outside of the fan and cooler was only one place it could go but i think i get wat ur sayin, ill have to mess w/ it i guess.

ya since the internal lights are blu in the haf and the front fan is blue mine aswel stick w. the overall theme i figured so ya anything blue im looking for.

in regards of the individual sleeved 8 pin connectors for the cards do u know wat i mean? and where i could look for those? and how easy would they be to install thm? im looking at my psu right now and all i see is tht the 6 pin connectors to the cards are coming out of a hole (all jammed through the hole pretty tight fit) on the psu..was wandering how i would unplugg these and replace thm any suggestions would be great thnx again

well just fell into some extra cash and i think im gonna give WC a try, if anything just the cpu, but may try on both gpu's aswell so w/ tht being said, i need some help gathering material.

before ppl start saying whoa nelly u dont wanna WC, this and tht, i know the risks i just want to experiment may give it a go may not we will c.

as stated in the OP u c my speks

if i was to do WC on the cards it would prolly b on the msi 680's but thts still up in the air, thts if they even make blocks for those cards idk but like i said i will most likely just b WC'n the cpu

so im rlly not looking for the best of the best, just something tht will do the job. i would need help deciding on what rad i would use, what size, say if i was just to do the cpu, (first scenario) and thn one if i was to do both gpu's as well (second scenario). also what kind of fans would i need for these particular rads..this is more or less just so i can get an idea of the cost of the material and if its rlly worth doing

cpu block?_____ gpu block's?_____ rads_____ pump_____reservoir____$$??
