I have an interesting situation and I am not sure why this should happen. I recieved for an Xmas present 2 gig set of Dominator TWIN3X2048-18007DF G.
I thought it should run at 1800 mhz. I left the Bios configured the same as my 2gig of XMS memory ( 1700 mhz, 8,8,8,20,2T ) Mem voltage at 1.90.

For some reason ( and after sending back 3 sets ) I get constant Memtest 86 errors. I tried the Corsair timing (7,7,7,20) 2.0 volts with worse results.

I have no problem overclocking the XMS memory to 1700- no issues1.90 volts.

So, why would the more expensive and tested to 1800 mhz Dominator memory fail memtest86 ( test 7 0r 8 one of the two I am not sure which one)?

I can not get that far. Memtest just gives me hundreds a fails no matter how I set the bios. My XMS memory gives me no errors up to 1700ghz. According to Corsair's site they should give zero errors using memtest.

The scary part is that sometimes the bios has to go in safe mode because the memory was a issue. All 6 modules can't be bad?

I went back to the DHX modules and set them up like the Dominator but 1700,( 7,7,7,20,1T) 1.95 volts and it passes memtest fine???? I think I will send the Dominator back and get another set of the DHX modules. Newegg at 44.00 after rebate!

I recently bought a maxed out computer $9000 in september from DS and I paid for dominator memory and got the XMS3 type instead. It is at DS right now for repair and upgrade and I asked them to install the dominator because it is what I paid for and suppose to be the best. I wonder now if that is the reason they didnt  install it in the first place because of compatibility issues. I just want the best I guess I will send another message for them to just install the best available and what works best with that board.

I would definily have a nice chat.
Tonight I tried some OC'ing of the memory just to see what I can get away with. I have 4 1 gig modules and did find one that failed Memtest86, while the other three were ok ( I tested each one inividually). To make a long story short I was able to get the memory stable at 1.975 volts - 7,7,7,20 2T at 1700 mhz unlinked . That spec is pretty close to the Dominators specs,s. As I am writiting this I am running Memtest on 2 of the three modules loaded into slots 0 and 2. If that passes as a set with the above settings then I will go and add the third module into slot 1. The fans are not installed, the mem's run pretty cool, but once I get this nailed down I will install the fans. I will probably loosen the timing a bit.

When the price of the XMS3 modules drop I will buy some more and cherry pick. It would still be cheaper than the Dominator 1800's that I have / had.

I spent 6K on my system, 9 K  must be one hell a va system!

Ya it is a very nice system I think I spent all the upgrades it can take now with the 3rd GPU. Talked with DS and they allready put the dominators 8GB on I hope I dont run into any problems with them I thought those were suppose to be corsairs best memory, am I mistaken? In a couple years I will upgrade the GPUs and cpu again though. The only thing to do now is buy a 30" screen I regret buying the 24" in september. Although the samsung syncmaster 245T is one of the best 24" on the market right now if U dont mind the price that is. I may buy the 30" syncmaster 305T too.

I am sure if DS installed Dominators all will be fine.
I do not know what MB or GPU's you have but I have the 790i OC'd and 2 GTX 280's and I am runing a 30" top of line Dell and next to it connected to a Dell XPS 420 ( talk about issues ) I have a Dell 24". For some reason the 24" has better sharpness and color saturation.

I ran Memtest for 4 hours on 2 gigs of XMS3's and it passed but I need to wait for the other pair XMS3's. I thought I can add a 3rd gig but the 790i does not seem to like that.

I just can't understand why the Dominators did not get along with the 790i
