I know Doom 3 is old now but I feel like buying it. What do you guys think of this game? The game is still expensive brand new, its like $90. Anyone know why it costs so much? I may buy it on ebay used. Also does anyone know if my XBOX controller will work with this PC game?

Doom 3 is on Steam for $19.99. Never liked it a whole lot, mostly because of the flashlight nonsense. Not sure if they ever included that mod as part of the game later on.

There is a flashlight mod. But it was pretty stupid, who would've guessed that there wouldn't be any duck tape on mars in the future.

Sounds like you gave up on keyboard/mouse play.

I've played Doom 3 on PC with an Xbox controller, but it wasn't my rig, so I can't attest to whether or not I it is as easy as plug n' go.
As for the game itself, I enjoyed it. While the flashlight definitely didn't make sense in terms of realism (as mentioned, just duct-tape it to your gun if nothing else), it wasn't really meant to be realistic. It was meant to force you into situations where you either couldn't see, and could shoot, or could shoot but couldn't see. It created a very effective atmosphere in my opinion. In this aspect it was a little less run n' gun than the previous Doom titles, but still a worthy play in my book. |

The flashlight made it more creepy when you didn't know where a monster was.
