Ok, this is my own fault but I have a problem. Icons on my desktop no longer work by double-clicking on them. I should say any icons or folders that are shortcuts no longer works by double clicking on them. My Computer, My Network etc all work with a double click. Only the shortcuts seem to be affected. I can right click on the icons and click on "Open" and the shortcut runs fine.
History of the problem.... a month or so ago my desktop icons refused to appear when I booted my DS computer. I had to shut it down and reboot it on every startup to get the icons to appear. Its sounds crazy but they always appeared after rebooting. I did some searches and found a program called "Roguekiller" which was suppose to solve the problem. I found it, ran it, and it found something called blankdesktop.?. Sorry don't remember the extension. Anyway, I had Roguekiller remove it and everything ran perfectly. Yesterday for the first time in a month or so my icons did not show up on bootup so I ran Roguekiller again. It told me it was out of date and when I tried to update it, I clicked on the wrong thing and downloaded a program called "7 zip". I realized what had happened and although the program installed I never ran it. I simply went and immediately uninstalled it. Thats when I noticed the problem with the desktop icons and double-clicking. I fixed Roguekiller and ran it but still the same problem. I have Googled the problem but no advice online seems to help. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated. The only thing I haven't tried yet is to delete and make new icons for all shortcuts. Oh and BTW, Malewarebytes found nothing when I ran it. Thanks! |

I'd do a full scan with your AV to make sure you don't have any baddies in your system, then go back in time with System Restore to a point before you started having the problem.
I'm not a fan of automated fixes but I do trust the one's from Microsoft. You might try this one: http://support.microsoft.com/mats/system_maintenance_for_windows/en-us Hope some of this helps.
