So- to gain some consensus, is there any downside to running my processor really hot under load?
right now vcore is set at 1.45 and while playing crysis at 1980x1200 with everything at very high the temp goes into the low 90s C. However, there doesn't seem to be any stability issues. I Played for 2 hours last night and didn't run into any problems.
So is there any downside to running this hot other than damaging the life of the processor? I plan to buy a new computer in a year and half anyway, so should this matter?
Thanks!

Considering the way your speced out, your rig is designed to run at temps like that and be fine. If you can make it it to your term without meltdown, then more power to ya. There's always that variable factor that floats which could break you sooner than you'd like, but that factor floats with all of us, too. You just never really know how it's going to hold up under that kind of stress.
It's kinda like a drag race in a super hopped-up alcohol burning rail car. You hit the gas and scream down the line at almost 300 miles per hour and pray to your sweaty balls that you don't disintegrate before you reach the finish line. |

Running it hot decreases the component's lifespan.

Seems odd also to me, unless the ambient in the room is really up there and the liquid can't cool down effectively due to that.

Of course, the processor's probably going to halt if it hits 100C.

He's cooling both a hot processor and two very hot running GPU's with a single loop liquid cooling solution. Those temperatures are not out of line.

Nice lob, Kliebor2. Your question suggests a number of different possible answers; none of which, unfortunately, can be proposed here.... Edited by Bill the Cat - 06 Jun 2008 at 9:56pm |

I would prefer a double genuflection for better stability.
