Good afternoon Kabrita,
Please find the factory fan configuration for the HAF X case below: Front:230 x 30 mm red LED fan on/off x 1 Top:200 x 30mm fans x 2 (one optional) Side:200 x 30mm fan x 1 Rear:140 x 25mm fan x 1 VGA Fan Duct:120 x 25 mm or 120 x 38 mm fan x 1(optional) VGA Holder:80 x 15 mm fan x 1(optional) The only fans that will be lit, by default, will be the front 230mm. This light will also have a toggle switch, letting you turn the illumination on and off. For those fans marked as optional, we can install them for you, at a small fee, to maximize the cooling potential of this case. Edited by Craig - 20 Jul 2011 at 6:15pm |

He did already indirectly answer your question, only the front 230mm fan is a red LED fan (bottom right corner of the picture). The CPU cooler is what looks to be just a Noctua NH-D14 with plain black performance 120mm fans on it. The black fan on it appears illuminated red by the red cathode light positioned near the top of the inside of the case. The red cathode light also shows through the top front grates a little bit. The optional cathode lights that DS can install also have on/off switches for them. |

then the light hitting on the noctua and appearing on the front of the case is the cold cathode on the top, is that correct?

Correct, just the standard $10 red cold cathode option. They don't show up quite that well in a lit room though, my HAF932 is noticeably less lit from its red cathode, you'll mostly notice the red LED fan(s). If you really want to make it stand out, I would suggest either having them replace more of the standard fans with red LED fans, or having them paint them like this: [1] [2] [Video] Either option will cost extra though, and I'm not even sure they will paint fans for the Special OPS configurations. Also: Function before fashion! Make sure you get everything you need component wise in the PC taken care of first before you splurge on special order fans and stuff, hehe. |

Just have them change the top and side fan with this one:
200mm red led fan and also add of those fans to the second spot on top, so that you endup with 3 x 200mm red lef fans, 2 on top and one on side and then you got the 230mm red led fan that is upfront. then look for a good 140mm red led fan and have them change the rear 140mm fan with the led one you found, make sure its quiet, otherwise its gonna be the loudest fan you have next to the gpu's fan. Or you can do what dragoon suggested and have them paint the non led fan's blades red. |

I had actually contacted them about painting the fans on my rig, and they said they couldn't. I asked why, and wasn't given a reason , so I don't know if they'll allow you to do that option unfortunately.

That would be correct. Since the blades have to be actually removed from the fan housing, to insure an even paint distribution, this takes quite a bit of time to perform.
I know that various companies produce fans that are already colored, so that may be your next best option. Even though we're the greatest computer company out there, we haven't grasped the power to control time. FrozenCPU has a good choice of fans - 12 Volt Fans LED/UV As with all of our customizable machines we produce, customers are always welcome to use parts we may not stock at the present time, for a very small, one time charge per order. |

But all fans are not the same, IMHO for the haf series, you are best to stick with the oem 200mm led fans.
You need to email Alex for that [email protected] He will show you how Edited by DST4ME - 21 Jul 2011 at 5:42pm |
