A few things you should change if it's within your budget:
Drop the Velociraptor and make 1 TB drive your HDD1. Buy an SSD down the road when you can afford it. Change Windows to Professional. Add a Memory Fan Kit if you can afford it. Might want to upgrade to the 1250w psu if you have plans of adding a second graphics card in the future. Rest looks good to me. Edited by BHH.Husker - 30 Apr 2010 at 7:22pm |

I'd drop liquid cooling for a good air cooler and then with the money you save get a SSD instead.
From the reviews I've read liquid cooling is far from silent. Just my 2c. Edited by Herniter - 30 Apr 2010 at 10:04pm |

Win 7 Pro has an XP mode built in that lets you use legacy software/games that will not run in Win 7. The upgrade price from DS is a steal.
I have the same PC room problem as I live in FL, or as I like to call her, Hell, Jr. However, I have the system below (in my sig line), and it is extremely quiet. I am actually *shocked* by how quiet it is. I got the Noctua Dual 120, and right now the room is ~ 78F, the CPU temp is 41C (under minimal load). I tend to agree with those who put LC in the luxury category, and an SSD is going to improve your experience a whole lot. But it's your dream....
If SLI in future, you will need 1200 watt PS for Nvidia, but you will do better to upgrade to better single card in future, IMO. It seems simpler is always better, and one card is that! If that sounds like you, you'll be fine with the 750 watt Corsair.
I agree the Velociraptor is not the upgrade it used to be. An SSD would be ideal, the 1T with 32 meg cache is not all that slower than the raptor, plus the r's are loud.
You don't want to OC the video card, in almost every game, the extra frames would be undetectable, and that card is hot enough as it is.
The config gurus advise never to tweak Win 7 as there is no such thing as one solution. Its actually an obsolete option I think. These PC's are so fast that tweak won't improve a thing.
So, the only really close call seems to be LC or not. If NOT, the eVGA LE will let you get the Noctua 14, which is a killer cooler. It is a perfecly fine board with extra PCI-e slots. You could also consider the HAF 932, the best air cooled case in the lineup. The Storm Sniper is a very close second, and as I said, it's amazingly silent.

Good info. I am going to go LQ, but will drop the raptor for one 1T 32 meg cache HD. I love the hailstorm case, its perfect for LQ.

ok that last build looks good but you need to know some stuff.
the LC system here is not quiet due to the fans on the rad. if you want a quiet system you will need to order quiet fans (low dba) and most low dba fans will have low airflow (cfm) so you need to get low cfm fans and a rad/s that will benefit from a low cfm fan, so in short if you want quiet you gonna have to custom order some stuff. also the price for that last build after the promotion is $3663 Edited by DST4ME - 01 May 2010 at 6:28pm |

what you want is a rad that works well with low cfm fans, if the rad is not great with low cfm fans and they turn down the speed of the fan then your temps are not going to be as good as they can be.
instead get a low cfm rad like feser or xspc rx and low cfm fans like gentle typhoon to go with that rad. you can ask them to use that reservoir. Edited by DST4ME - 03 May 2010 at 2:24am |

I am looking for some detailed info on what brands are used by DS. I spoke with Sara today and asked about radiators like brands (I wanted a Feser) and was told they use parts from Danger Den but no more than that.
I know DD has some good stuff but I would like to know from someone who has LQ system already from DS on what is what. Pump type... CPU and GPU brands.
Thanks
Also have passed stage one !

pumps are normally either Laing DDC 3.x versions or MCP35x version.
the rads are Black Ice but what model depends on which LC stage you picked. the best Black Ice models are the gtx but they need high cfm fans. cpu I think is some kind of dd WB. and gpu WB I think is either koolance or I'm not sure. Edited by DST4ME - 04 May 2010 at 1:55am |

well you don't want low cfm fans with a rad that does not do best with them either.
you need to then order a rad that does best with low cfm fans. |

Well if I do that and send it to them they will charge me an install fee. I asked about adding my present HD to make a third and was told by Sara in would be $20.00.
I'm wishen I would have looked into the parts before paying my $3,700 ! I can see this costing me alot more to get what I want and be happy.

Bill, if what your worried about is noise level, I assure you, your system is really not that loud, and your performance is going to be great. You really in all honesty have nothing to worry about with your build.

I sent you an email Sara regarding my concerns. The black ice rads are made to use high speed fans which = noise. Even if you dial them down cooling will suffer.

the zalman F3 fans, if that is what is on your radiator, are not a little loud, they are deafening loud IMHO. in a quiet room, you push the on button, and if you can hear any sound out of the PC, then it is not a quiet PC in my opinion, but when you can close the door and down the hall hear a roar coming from the other end of the house, lol it is way to loud, and my DS PC had 6 zalman fans, and even when I lowered the voltage to 7 volts they still were pretty loud.
the black ice GTX radiators make more noise than others because of their high fin per inch, and perform terribly with low speed fans, but they kick butt with high speed ones.

We are no longer doing custom parts for customers computer outside of the hardware we sell. If you would like to install your own products that is perfectly fine. But I assure you that everything that we sell have been test to the fullest and is the best possible product for the customer. I just recieved this from Eric at DS. I wish I would have known about this prior to purchasing. Looks like I missed to boat on getting a true custom machine like was offered in the past ! :( |

I have not heard anymore from DS yet but that was the message Eric sent me. I have no idea what his postion is but it seems like he is one of the upper management ?
I sent Sara a detailed email trying to show that other customers have recieved differnt levels of customization. Your machine DST4ME is highly customized and you just recieved it. All I am wanting is a rad made for low speed fans.
I don't know what to think now :(

We do discourage “special ordered parts” but if you have your heart set of particular items we can do it, you just have to understand that there will be an overhead rate of 30% per value of the item. The item must be ordered by the customer and shipped to Digital Storm. In addition, and due to the nature of special ordering parts, your computer is going to be completely specialized, that means you also will have to sign a waiver that states you agree that the computer cannot be returned for a refund.
We are dedicated to providing our customers with the highest quality products and service and by special order parts the customer must understand it takes time to insure these things special with products we have never used before. Some of the reasoning behind this: 1. Warranty Replacements - If the product becomes defective it makes it very difficult to provide a timely warranty replacement 2. Compatibility Issues – Wish special ordered parts we wouldn’t be able to guarantee quality, reliability, performance, and compatibility 3. Pricing - Due to the nature of purchasing a single item versus multiple items we wouldn’t be able to provide our loyal customer competitive pricing as they deserve We want to insure that every customer has the best possible experience and by allowing our customer’s to focus their purchasing on the items we are simplifying your buying experience with this new change to Digital Storm policy. But Like I have stated before if you really want to take this route we can do this. |
