I see there's new forceware. Should I "clean" drivers currently installed before updating? If so, which product? Maybe just uninstall with CCleaner? Revo Uninstaller? (New computer, nervous.) * * * Nvidia Forceware 285.62 24 October 2011 Nvidia has released the 285.62 WHQL certified driver. This driver is for GeForce 6 and higher desktop cards. It is the recommended driver for Battlefield 3. It also contains performance improvements for Batman: Arkham Asylum and Rage, as well as other games on the 400 and 500 series, along with bug fixes. The driver package also contains the 9.11.06.21 PhysX drivers. |

With nvidia you always want to do a clean install of drivers.
revo and cc won't get rid of everything. uninstall it and then use Driver Sweeper in safemode to clean out anything else left, the reboot and go to desktop and install new drivers, make sure you don't let windows install drivers for the gpus. Edited by DST4ME - 24 Oct 2011 at 5:40pm |

hey DST, I was just wondering, do you reboot into safemode again to install new drivers after the old ones are uninstalled? I was just wondering because won't the screen be all messed up with no current drivers? I guess I am not really understanding what is actually happening after you run the driver cleaner in safemode. so just asking as a newb. I didn't even realize that you should delete the old drivers from nvidia cards, I thought the installation of new drivers from them did that automatically. good stuff

Na screen might change res but it will be fine, you first uninstall drivers and reboot to safe mode, run driver sweeper and remove the stuff you need to make sure are gone, then boot back into normal desktop and install drivers, and reboot again.
I would go to the nvidia folder and make sure there are no older drivers folders left. |

oh hey, meant to ask this the other day.
But, when I do get my new system, will I need to do complete this process when unpacking my new computer and have to check for driver updates on my first power up?

I think you should make a handy dandy picture guide for driver updating procedures for us newbs and toss it in the guide forum. I think you explain it really well, but a pictorial presentation of the process would be awesome!
I learned more about computers in these forums than I did in my computer classes at school. |

Only use the driver sweeper for the times you have issues and need to use it, otherwise use the advanced method of installing from the drivers, and choose the option to "perform a clean install" after that go to C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDriver and here delete any folder that does not have the same number as the drivers you just installed.
