So its time to tear down the Drunken Monkey for the 5th time. changes will be new horizontal motherboard tray, new front, that will be inverted from what it is now, and hold 1 quad radiator, and two triple radiators. different pumps for the CPU loop, and GPU loop, different reservoirs. Hopefully 2 GTX 480's liquid cooled will replace the 4890's. and different radiator fans.
this will take place over the next 3-4 months.
so step one, starting tear down, and thought I better check to see if the dual 3.25 DDC's and new res will fit like I hoped they would. lol
well, yep it clears, the top fitting is a 90 degree fitting to make it work, and it clear by just under 1/2"

haha thanks, the picture makes the reservoir look so small, but it is pretty huge, and with 2 of them in parallel it will fill up the whole window. Lol 100+ pounds of just water cooling crap inside, counting the water of course when it is all done.

there is no designated HD area, the SSD's are velcroed to the back of the MB tray |

yes, The Drunken Monkey ran on the 6Gbs RAID controller with 8 Intel SSD's, no other drives, but with the 5th build, I think I am not going to put the RAID card back in, and just run 4 SSD's off the ICH10r south bridge, I will need the room for maybe 3 5870 2Gb cards, if the new Fermi's don't start putting up better numbers, or might go with a 4Gb 5970 and as 2Gb 5870, be easier to tri fire that way.. have 2 months to decide. lol
Yes DST, lol I had a couple triple rads sitting here doing nothing, so thought I ought to make room for them, so added an additional base to the main case to hold two more rads, and then I can put the pumps, and some extra goodies down there.
it will look like this, except I had them cut 3 holes on the 2 other sides, so all vertical panels will have three holes in them.

2 people in my unit have gotten field grade article 15s this deployment for that :(. Might be a slightly less harsh punishment in non-military government job. Nice rig BTW Justin, must be super fun to try and take to LAN parties with ya, I guess you can always just host them at your place though :D. Edited by Herniter - 05 Mar 2010 at 10:27pm |

Thanks!
The new CPU water block showed up also, so with a bit better fans, a touch more radiator, better water block, a lot more water volume, hoping to keep my new overclock in the 60C's... LOL that is the goal.
New overclock is 4.5Ghz, but with 2150Mhz RAM speed with very good timings, seems so far to be faster in games than 4.7Ghz with 1780Mhz RAM. Will re-test when the new GPU's show up.

Do you typically use Mushkin RAM in your systems? Or maybe a better question would be, which brand of RAM has given you the best performance?

It matters, I am always looking for deals, so I use a lot of G Skill RAM, that is what I currently have in the Drunken Monkey, with this new overclock. Mushkin's red line has been decent, had many sets of them. but Corsair has always been good also, just hard to justify the price most times.
OCZ RAM and me have not had a good relationship, many sticks not able to do rated specs, and none have overclocked very well, in my experience.
Truth be known, most manufactures use the same components, so there usually is not much difference, OCZ just labeled the same RAM a bit better than others did, time to time. lol They might not any more, but that bridge has been burned with me.
So price, and warranty is key for me, and also I keep an eye on the big dogs, and see what they are having success with, or failures with, and and then try for myself.

@justin.kerr, fill me in about those fans:
1. What are they?
2. Why did you select those?
