Okay people I'm going to get my parents to order the Performance 2 tonight.
Since this is my 1st DS gaming rig and I don't want anything to go wrong with it. Could you guys/gals give me some maintenance tips. Such as what software to run to keep in tip top shape, when to defrag, what part of the machine to wipe down and blow out with a compressed can of air, etc. What ever you can think of so it runs just as smooth as day one. Your comments are greatly appreciated and I can't wait to get the computer. P.S. I'm thinking of getting a steel series gaming pad, tell me what you think about that also( to go with my Razer DeathAdder also from DS) ![]() |

CCleaner to keep the temp folders empty.
CPU-zto checkout info on cpu and other parts if needed. GPUz to checkout info on GPU. HWMonitor to keep an eye out on temps. I would recommend defragging once every 3 month and that is if the defrag level is above 30%, otherwise its pointless and many not be good for your HDD. make sure you have a good up to date anti virus and scan everything you download with it before you open them. |

1st thing - what good antivirus would u recommend (my last computer had norton antivurs)
2nd - would you recommend downloading and using smart defrag? 3rd- should I ever use that registry clean up option on CCleaner? 4th - just incase my parents don't want to buy a $100+ antivirus any torrent antivirus I can download in the meantime and use on the computer? |

How about the free AVG anti-virus? (Possibily download the one featured on kool lite tools)
I'm thinking of using a free 30 day trial of AVG then upgrade and buy the "AVG Internet Security" package for 50 bucks. Edited by adale - 03 Sep 2009 at 12:40pm |

I would recommend NOT using smart defrag and use Ultimate Defrag (its payware and its one of the best out there). Its not just a defrag program but a file placement also. So you can put all the files you use all the time around the edge of the drive and all the ones you rarely use on the inside. Smart defrags kinda does this BUT leaves holes (UD doesn't) ... trust me I tried both and Ultimate Defrag is the best. Especially for gaming..
Mason, you should try that too.... totaly makes FSX (well all my games) run and load faster. Oh and happy birthday... !

1.ESET Smart Security, it has a 30 day full free trial, try it first then buy a license after 30 days its a great anti virus and firewall. 2. defraging is not that big of a deal, your os has a defrag feature you can use but if you want a payware one O&O is great. 3. don't mess with the registry unless it gives you errors, so just stay away from the registry. 4. you can use freeware security apps if you like but I don't advise them. |
