Topic: DS Fan Upgrade Posted: 20 Nov 2014 at 9:02am |
Does anyone know exactly which fans the: "Upgrade All Fans to Corsair
Airflow Performance Edition (Up to 6 Fans)"
Are these the AF120 Performance Edition, the AF120 Quiet Edition and the AF140 Quiet Edition? Does it include the SP120 High Performance Edition and the SP120 Quiet Edition fans? Is there an option / choice here? There doesn't seem to be many options for cooling with pretty much either Stock; the two Corsair (h100i & 110); DS Vortex or full blown water cooling and the only fan options seem to be the "Corsair Airflow Performance" which I'm not sure as to what that entails. I'm not complaining but I'm definitely trying to figure out my best option as special ordering doesn't really seem to be a very smart way to go. Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks!! |

The specs under more info, specify the AF140/120 Quiet . The size would obviously depend on the stock fan size its replacing. It also comes with fan reduction adapter, resistor packs for lowering the rpm, and comes with the colored rings.
These you wouldn't want in place of a rads fans. Those need the static pressure fans, like the SP120/140 for example. Edited by bprat22 - 20 Nov 2014 at 9:15am |

Payback.
Dax... If this is to get better fans for the H110 without special order, and I am taking liberties here , I personally would keep the fans that come with the H110, if that's you're choice of cooler. Reviews I've seen show the fans work great and stay relatively quiet. Not a bad fan. But, it's your rig and you want it Just Right. Edited by bprat22 - 20 Nov 2014 at 9:29am |

Thanks folks. Sometimes I'm not too bright. I had copy/pasted the build I want to an MS Word Document and didn't even think to look at the specs. Applies to me!!! Sorry for being such a dumb a$$.
Bprat, that was one thought - replacing the H110 fans. I'm also thinking of replacing the stock fans in the Air 540. They come with 3 140mm AF140L fans (2 in front and 1 in back). It can have up to 5 fans. Although, I'm not clear as to if the H110 would take the place of the 2 top fans. Also, as I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed, is the AF140L fans are the same as the fan upgrade being offered by DS? If this was you, how would you populate the Air 540 with fans and what type? |

Some people who have the case go with three fans in the front two on the top and one on the back of course, gets plenty of airflow that way i believe

I believe the H100 and it's 280mm rad would mount under the top. The Air 540 specs the top being able to hold a 240 or 280mm rad.
The AF140L...The L stands for LED. The DS fans aren't LED. They do have LED fan upgrades but not what you mean, I think. The AF140L is a Quiet version. So I guess the Air 540 has the Quiet version AF140's. I don't see any point in the upgrade unless I'm missing something, which is entirely possible. Not sure about the extra Air 540 fan mounts. I'm going to check it out. Ya got me curious. Edit... The Air 540 can accommodate 2x 140mm Front, 2x 140mm Top and the Rear 140mm. Like Arkansas said, it can take 3x 120mm in the front. Thanks Arkansas and Bprat. With regard to the fan upgrade, that's kinda what I was wondering if I should even choose it.
So now for the follow up questions (I always have questions - lol): 1). would you do x3 120mm or x2 140mm in the front. I'm thinking x2 140mm would be better and quieter but I'm unsure; 2). does the radiator on the top eliminate the option of the 2 fans? and 3). if I add 2 fans to the top, would that fall under the fan upgrade? (That's an expensive 2 fans if that's the case!!) |

The 120 and 140 are rated at the same sound level, according to Corsair site, but I'd still just keep the 140's. The 140's are rated at 66cfm air flow and the 120's at 52cfm. More airflow with 3x 120 but I'd keep the 140's. Just me.
The rad does eliminate the 2 top fans. The rad has its own and takes up the space. The fan upgrade says, up to 6 fans, so in your case, it would be 2 if no top rad. I;ve never been sure if the upgrade includes the replacing the stock rad fans. I wouldn't think so unless they were the sp140's, sp for static pressure, but DS would know for sure. |

That's what I figured about the rad. So essentially the fan upgrade would be useless as the 3 fans to be used would already be populated with the same type of fan and the 2 slots on the top will be blocked by the H110. Would a push/pull configuration on the radiator change this and essentially add 2 more fans or is that not possible in the top mounted position?
I do know that Corsair allows the addition of 3rd party fans to their coolers and it doesn't void the warranty. Also, the SP or PWM type fans may not be needed with this cooler from what I read. I guess maybe I just live with the fans and see how it goes...It is an interesting question about the fan upgrade though and when I go to buy, I guess I'll ask. I think the only open item for me now is overclocked 980s or not - lol!! |

Not sure if there's room for push/pull but I don't think it's needed.
I've never been a huge fan of overclock gpu. I'm in the minority for sure. On another note... my rig went belly up right after my last post. Took about 20 minutes to troubleshoot it to the psu. Oh well, got tons of miles on it. Time for a new psu. OK, I'm done venting. Edited by bprat22 - 20 Nov 2014 at 12:56pm |

Ohhh no bprat!! that sucks. I'm sorry to hear that. Maybe it's time for a new machine!!
One further question on the GPU. When you have it overclocked by DS do they actually do the overclock or do they provide a factory overclocked version of the GPU? I was never clear on this. |

Thanks Arkansas and Dax. Stuff happens.
When you select the gpu overclock option, they do their own. I think they use MSI Afterburner or EVGA Precision but not sure. With a factory overclocked card, I don't think they add to it. That's good question if Alex sees this. |

The team will try to push the card more if it's factory overclocked, but it's not going to be much. Hope that helps!
