I am sort of disappointed at DS laptops. Why don't they make their own laptops like they do with desktops? I can find their laptops (same case) elsewhere for a cheaper price (Sager notebooks to be more percise).

Why sell a laptop similar to a competitor with a higher price? I'm a bit disappointed :(

BestBuy charges a certain price for a TV, while another retailer has the same TV for less down the street. Just the way the world works man, you can easily choose to goto the other store and buy it there for less. However, in the case of DS they are running the laptop through countless tests, quality inspection, providing a very good warranty and giving you lifetime toll free high quality customer service. They also have to keep the lights running, pay rent each month in california(Which ain't a cheap state for commercial office space) and pay there employees wages. That explains the markup man, there also a small boutique so there prices are always going to be higher because they aren't Dell or HP who get massive discount to buy as much as they do and they don't give you all the BS bloatware that come with the other PC makers which also cut the price that you pay.

Laptops vendors DO NOT make their own laptops. FNW Mgear DigitalStorm, Sager and whaterver system builders you care to name all 'buy' a laptops most basic components (generally refered to as a barebones system) from an ODM (original design manufacter) called Clevo, these components can include the Laptop chassis, screen mobo and GPU , they the system buider installs the cpu, ram, test burns it, installs windows and drivers, rebadges it, and sometimes gives it a paintjob and then ships it to the customer.

Even alienware does not make it's own Laptops they get buy their basic components from ODM's, their old m17 was a rebadged OCZ whitebook and their new m17x is are made by the ODMs Arima and Flextronics.

The only companys which are big enought to actually design and their own notebook systems, are the likes of dell HP, Acer, Asus, and even then maybe apart from Asus (which actually has the capacity to make parts such as mobos) the manufacturing of such laptops are outsourced to companies in Taiwan like Foxxcon.

I used to game on an HP Compaq 6730s when I was traveling and I hated it especially having to dial the resolution down to 800x600 disabling particles antiscopic filtering and lowering all the settings to medium and low just to get a playable framrate. Now I have psp and while it's not the best thing to play games on it certainly beats the hell out of my crap notebook.

Have any of you wondered why superheros always wear their underwear outside their pants?

Batman:

Superman:

Mr. Incredible:

Just to name a few.

Let's keep the forums clean with helpful information.

@aceboy44, laptops in general aren't that easy to customize for smaller focused businesses such as Digital Storm. However, as we grow, I am positive we will have the resources to develop our own laptop with ODM's in the future.

We do have a refresh coming up (this week).

Please keep me posted Alex. I would like to be the first customer to purchase your own laptop (built with your own hands.) Since I use laptops more than desktops, I would hope that you guys would make a customizable 15.4 or 15.6 inch laptop.

Thanks :)

We are currently evaluating the laptops, and we may not offer a customize option for them in order to keep costs down, however, they will be configured with extras.

Is it possible that you can make a 15.6 inch laptop with the following specifications?

CPU: Core 2 duo T9900 3.06Ghz (I'm not a fan of Core I7 because I had a terrible experience with it)
RAM: 2GB Max.
SSD: Intel x-25e 32GB
VGA: 256MB
Wireless + webcam + fingerprint (not interested in bluetooth)
OS: Windows XP

The laptop section has been updated. Mostly it's pricing and such and certain offerings.

I'm still disappointed at DS, you offer me CPU upgrade on your laptop but you don't offer me windows XP on your laptop?

Sager notebooks offer me windows XP on their 15 inch laptops so why don't you guys offer me windows xp as well? Question

@aceboy44,

I'm sorry but, we are phasing out Windows XP soon. It's all being replaced by Windows 7 buddy. Ouch
