Topic: DS RAM Modules DDR4 3200 (Adata) Failed! Posted: 20 May 2019 at 8:37am |
Yesterday I was doing some work on my not even a month old Lumus, when it started to freeze up. I assumed it was the new application I was using so I dismissed the issue. A few minutes later it did it again. I uninstalled the app, thinking that it was causing the problem.
Well, about an hour later my PC stopped working altogether, the screen giving OC errors before loading the BIOS. I still have the default stage 1 OC by DS, i9-9900K at 4700. Making the story short and after staying up all night troubleshooting this thing, I discovered that two of the four 16 gig DS RAM Modules DDR4 3200 (Adata) were bad. XMP in the BIOS would cause these two modules to fail immediately, no booting at all. XMP was turned on by DS with their OC config so I know they suppose to work with XMP. After disabling XMP the computer, sometimes, would complete the booting just to crash again a couple of minutes later. I removed all four 16 gig modules and tested them one by one with the original BIOS settings (DS OC'd) and these two modules failed right away. By process of elimination I ended up with two good ones and two bad ones. I now worry about the other two modules and wondered if I should have bought the Corsair brand instead. I sent DS an email requesting assistance before going to bed this morning, and at the time I write this, they are still not open, so I am waiting right now. If I could could go back in time, that's what I would have done, buy Corsairs 8( Edited by SpookyDiver - 20 May 2019 at 8:40am |

I had basically the same problem, but it was 3 months in. DS sent me 4 new modules and I have had no problems with them for the last 6 years, but I did have to set my overclock to 4.2 instead of 4.3 to be stable.

That's another thing I tried, I set the CPU with no OC at all, and the modules still crashed. I think DS received some bad RAM from ADATA. I am hoping they would allow me to exchange them for good Corsairs with me paying for the price difference....

Wow, I just spoke with Stephen and he was a super nice guy.
They are replacing my DS RAM with Corsairs with me paying for the difference. I can't say enough how great this company is. Love DS! |

Sorry to hear of glitches, but you sorted that out pretty nicely!
Glad you are now going Corsair RAM Spooky... an upgrade for your trouble and early proof your DS warranty works well! The Corsair RAM should be quite solid ....forever. |

Yeh, great job on that troubleshoot! As we all know, the silicon lottery can come out of nowhere for no particular reason. Really bad when that happens. It's typically not the brand, it's just the breaks. Very glad they met you halfway to happiness! Good luck.

LOL, "Silicon Lottery", that's the perfect way to describe it But the odds of winning the lottery is always better with a better brand

"Silicon lottery" is when you get a bad item since it happens so infrequently, unless you are discussing cpus, then you want to get a winner (and that only means you got a chip that can be really oc'd to beyond the max with no issues at all).

I received the new Corsair Platinum RGB. Man, that's quality stuff!
I installed them and did a RAM Test and it passed. With XMP turned on, standard voltages running at 3200 their idle temperatures are 37, 37.75, 36.75 and 34.50. I played "Shadow of War" for a little while and their temperature got up to 42 to 47c. My I9-9900K is running all cores at 4700. and the idle temp is 32-33 c in all cores. I am very happy. Time will tell but now the odds are in my favor. Edited by SpookyDiver - 22 May 2019 at 4:31pm |
