I designed my rig to by brutally fast, no expense spared. After having some shipping damage repaired, I called to inquire as to the final OC. Chris called and said they had the OC on my 790i/qx9770 to 3.8. He said that they could push it to ~=4.2 and likely keep it stable if I replaced the side fan with 4 fans for some extra air/insurance. It'll be in a home office at the other end of the house, so noise isn't an issue.

They're going to stress it over the weekend to make sure it's stable before shipping.

Do I need the speed? No. Do I want the speed. Yes! This is my midlife crisis and I will not make any compromises this time, damnit!!! I never want to see an hourglass cursor again!

Chris said that this box would eat any smaller pc's nearby. I offered to feed it my iMac.

If you see the lights dim in NJ, you know I'm gaming!

Yeah it ain't happening.

Chris suggested I replace the big side fan (HAF 932) with 4-120mm fans (that makes 10 in the case (front, top, rear, 4-side, 3-memory) plus LC on the cpu). Now with both stage-3 fans plus LC, Duke still couldn't get it stable at 4.2ghz.

He's reformatting the disk and reinstalling the OS (not sure why), and going for 4ghz.

That's certainly respectable and in fact was my original goal. Just not sure why I need all that cooling.

Perhaps you should of gone with a better radiator or a larger one instead of more fans.

I went with DS' recommendations. Given all the fans, I'm thinking you're both right about the size of the radiator.

If the radiators come in different sizes, and this chip generates so much heat, why doesn't DS offer a choice of "adequate", "better" and "arctic" capability radiators, same as with air vs LC? I would have bought the better one.

I think it's something you would have to specifically request. That's what I'll be doing.

I'll be getting a HW 360GTX and a HW 120GTX put in my build. I'll have 4 Scythe Ultra Kaze's running in push perhaps with a shroud as well. Also going to request the Fuzion V2 CPU block.

Ok, for us folks who might not realize it's even an option, perhaps the good folks at DS might somehow note it on the configurator so that we at least know to ask the question?

What ever your needs may be, if we know them ahead of time, we will do our best to achieve your goal.

Previously, we had our "Special Comments" box for this purpose at the payment details page, however, we further fine-tuned our options and added a "Special Instructions for Assembly\Testing Team" directly onto the configurator page.

Warm Regards,
Alex

That's one of the main reasons DS surpasses all other PC building companies, their willingness to go the extra mile(s) to help you completely customize your system.
