A few months ago I decided to switch out my 1TB HDD with a SSD.
I wanted to see what I was dealing with before I did the actual installation so I opened up my case and saw that the connectors were underneath the overhang of the video card. No problem, I figured I'd just remove the card, take a look, then reseat the card and button it up. While it is common knowledge that video cards have a clip that secures the card, the last PC that I built did not, (a little outdated knowhow is a truly dangerous thing <sigh>). I got a pretty good bow in the motherboard before I realized what I was doing, (aggg!). Well I got everything set, buttoned up and rebooted...Perfect! No problem! Then, a small audible "pop" and total screen corruption. Tried to reboot and failed. I did not even hesitate, I boxed it up in the original packaging material and got it ready to ship. I figured I wanted the people that made it to figure out what I had done and fix me back up. When I called to let them know I was sending it in for service they mentioned it was still under warranty but it would not cover anything I might have broken while poking around. I let them know it has worked flawlessly since I opened the box a year and a half ago and what ever is wrong I did and I fully expected to pay for whatever was needed to make it right. They sent me daily emails letting me know how they were progressing and in less than a week they said the were shipping it back to me. I asked what the shipping and repair amount would be and they told me nothing, everything was covered. I reminded them that whatever was wrong was my fault and I was more than OK with covering the cost. Nope they said, it was all set. I opened the box and it was as clean inside as a brand new pc. I also noticed a replacement video card. (I had no idea what I had borked, the card, the motherboard or both) Booted up and has worked perfectly since as it always had. Yep, even after I put in the new ssd, (very, very carefully). Just wanted everyone to know what most of us here take for granted, that DS is an excellent company to deal with and they always go the extra mile for you. It should be some years before my next gaming rig but they certainly have a customer for life in me. |
