when DSO overclocks, do they keep hyper threading enabled or disabled? Just curious as i was reading this article:

and it says at one point:

"However, when it comes to overclocking, users have an interesting dilemma. In our testing, we found that disabling Hyper-Threading typically led to slightly more stable overclocks on the high-end range. Which, in theory, makes a little sense, as the chip is working less hard in heavily threaded software. However, while we were able to obtain slightly higher clock speeds and retain stability, our benchmark numbers typically showed lower numbers compared to a lower-clocked processor with Hyper-Threading enabled."

im assuming they keep Hyperthreading enabled because of higher performance benchmarks even with the lower clock? :)

I think they do keep on from what we have seen. they don't push the chip that hard that you need to disable HT anyways.

also benchmarks don't represent real life use, on top of that, unless you are using apps that take advantage of the threads then it makes no difference if you have it enabled or not.

last but not least, you are free to push your OC and enable or disable HT as you please.

That article is very out dated, and is no longer accurate, if it even was to start with.

If the computer is for gaming only, HT will not give you any performance gains, yet. lol With Windows 7, and DX11, the new games will be able to run faster with HT on.
For everyday usage, HT on is noticeable, being able to multitask to a new level.
It does not matter if the app can use all 8 threads, if you are using many apps at once, but remember Vista is very inefficient with HT.

And for the people that don't believe that HT is going to be in the future, lol, here is a glance into what is coming soon. 24 threads !!! That is some POWER. lol

I believe they are 9-9-9-24, but you will never notice a difference in that either, ram speed and latency doesn't not matter for gaming about 1200 x 1000 resolution.

It's not about our needs. It's about our wants. A pentium 4 from ~five years ago can handle Crysis just fine but the majority wants something better.

Madison Avenue makes a lot of $$$ informing, educating, telling us exactly what we "should" want.  Lets face it, it's a big world out there...we can't be everywhere...read everything...we need others to tell/guide us to Nirvana--right Angry
