Hi, so I just got my DSO machine, and it is awesome. However, I have a couple questions about problems I am having:

1. I think this is common, but from time to time my video shuts off and restarts (programs remain fine) and I get a message saying "Your program "nvlddmkm" temporarily shut off  .. . . something like that and then turned back on successfully" so its some strange video card error. I may just install new drivers . .

2. I had trouble getting sound to work, plugged headphones into the front headphone jack, and this horrible, never-ending electronic rhythm blasted into my headphones. I could hear other sounds behind, but it was terrible. I went to the sound control panel and my preferences for speakers, and switched it off stereo to quadrophonic and my problems are temporarily gone, but I was just wondering if anyone knew what that was??

I've seen some other threads citing the video card problem and one of the solutions was installing drivers for your monitor.  Have you tried that?

Do you have onboard sound or a sound card?  If you're using Creative, be sure to update to the lastest drivers.  I had the same problem (only worse) in Vista x64 and the new driver fixed it.

EDIT: Installing new sound driver atm, see if that fixes things.

So the noise came back . . I managed to turn it off again by messing with
some settings, but now I'm not sure if the sound works (haven't checked). I checked the drivers and windows said it has the latest version, maybe its wrong, but it isn't saying any updates are necessary. And my keyboard stopped functioning; windows asked to do some updates, which it did successfully, but my sound problems returned and my keyboard stopped working in the process. Its an oldie keyboard, but it worked on the same machine before the update, so I don't know whats wrong. Anyone have any ideas?
