I'm not great with monitors, but from what I understand, if your pgu is able to produce more fps then the refresh rate, then it might help, but as long as your reslution stays sharp as you go up in Hz.

keep in mind thats just my understanding, I'm not a 100% sure.

nor were they correct, cause if your monitor can handle faster refresh rate with a clean res, and your game is producing more fps then the og refresh rate, then the answer would be yes.

If you don't understand what I'm saying, don't get angry with me and get all snooty , instead spend a little more time figuring out what you missed.

The refresh rate on your monitor has nothing to do with in-game performance.  If your fps count is higher than the refresh rate on your monitor then you will experience tearing.  This is fixed by turning on vsync which locks your fps to the refresh rate of your monitor.

If you have a 75hz refresh rate on your monitor and have vsync turned off you have more leeway before you start to see tearing.

Some games do, however, see performance drops when turning on vsync.

it is in no way a given that you will get vertical tearing if your fps is higher than your refresh rate. I have yet to see vertical tearing and i've never used vsync, and on some games (older games, but still) i've hit over 400-500fps with no problems.

I think that depends on the quality of the monitor and not the refresh rate itself, but I could be wrong. Either way, that's not a "rule"

that's a whole lot more technical than "If your fps count is higher than the refresh rate on your monitor then you will experience tearing." I knew the gist of it and why it happened but not to that degree. Either way, doesn't explain why I've never seen (or maybe a better word would be noticed) tearing with vsync disabled, and judging by the post I should definitely be experiencing tearing at 3x my refresh rate.

Maybe i'm just the exception to the rule here and that's why I don't see it as a rule ;p

i play css 200+fps without tearing too
i think it might be down to the graphics card, game or the monitor or all 3
or its just so minimal that unless you look for it you wont see it?
