For starters, install TweakVI: http://tweakvi.en.softonic.com/.
The free version should be all you need. http://www.tweakvista.com/VistaInterfaceTweaks.aspx is also a decent read. For tweaking services, there are hundreds of sites that will offer help. This is one I found with a quick Google search of "vista services safe to disable". http://www.vistarewired.com/2007/02/18/services Towards the bottom, a lot of services are listed and what they do. |

TweakVI is a good one for customizing. (don't trust othersites, they are not as good as klt and not upto date either) but as far as other things, what are you trying to tweak? Edited by DST4ME - 31 Jan 2009 at 4:46pm |

DAygn, at your specs, I don't think disabling services will really make a difference to you, you have a beast, you think windows services even come into play?
OK but if you want to do disable services we can. are you the only account on this PC? if yes then I would start with getting ride of any remote connections services. Edited by DST4ME - 31 Jan 2009 at 6:06pm |

Only warhead is my resource hog and the great fps I was getting last night was due to the new patch not setting FSAA or the resolution correctly.
which ones there is a few and you need remote procedure call or things will get vary screwed up.
First how do I keep background prosses from running. I have 52 and can end a few all the way down to 33 but I have to do it before every game I play

Most were already configured that way. So how about where I can stop the background programs from starting. Most are not listed under msconfig |

depends on the process you are trying to stop, you will find out your own apps have a bunch running.
which background process are you trying to stop? some of those services I listed should have dropped your number of processes running the background down. |

Black viper is great but each system will have need for different services, if you just match his, you will realize something that are missing you want back, for some reason he does not like the visual offerings of an OS.
