Sorry for the noob question.....I just received my PC from DS and have a couple questions about the dual 5850's in crossfire that was configured for my setup.
1) Do both cards need to be conenected to my monitor? I have a 24" running 1920 x 1200. If so which DVI outputs should be connected. If they don't both need to be connected, then which output should be connected to the monitor.
2) I was playing BF2BC for about an hour and when I stopped, I checked the temperature CPUID and the temp of the GPU was averaging 85C. Is this normal?
3) The Catalyst Control Center showed only the GPU connected to my monitor having a temp and activity. The other GPU, the temp, activity, and fan speed are at zero. Is this how it's supposed to be?
Any input is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Sorry, forgot to mention....the idle temp of the active GPU is about 45-46C. I've read elsewhere that idle should be around 37C. Is this true?
Thanks,

1. one card needs to be connected is all.
2.85c is fine, I always change the stock fan profile to keep temps under 75C, this is easily done with MSI afterburner.
3.Catalyst 10.6 has been a real failure. BC2 has not been using both GPU's, same with MW2 for some.. I have TRI-fire and it drops the 3rd card on those two games. So you can either run it the way it is, until 10.7 comes out in a couple weeks, or uninstall 10.6 and install 10.5.

Thanks Justin. So it's fine if the temps are at 80C+ while gaming?
Also, do you think the idle temps of 45-48C are ok? Seems kind of high for idle. I should probably mention that I have a Cooler Master HAF 932 with stock fans only. Should I upgrade the fans? Would that help keep the temps down a bit? Thanks. |

yes, those temps are fine. if you down load MSI afterburner, there is a fan profile utility, that will allow you to ramp the fan speed up a little bit faster than stock, and keep it a bit cooler, or crank it up and run a lot cooler, but it will be a lot louder. lol

I like to set up the MSI fan profile like this:
![]() That way it slowly and continuously ramps up the fan speed as the card temperature increases until it finally settles into its own happy medium. |

Thanks. Makes me feel a little better. I'll look into downloading MSI Afterburner.

Hey everyone,
So I downloaded MSI Afterburner and set the fan settings. The only problem is whenever I start my PC, the fans jump to 100% speed. I tried disabling manual control in Catalyst Control but everytime I restart, the settings get changed back to manual fan control and the fans jump up to 100%.
Can someone let me know if there is a specific way yo configure MSI AB?
Thanks,
