My DS computer has dual ethernet ports and I am trying to use the second port to hook my second PC and share the broadband connection. I am not using a router or switch to do this rather I am directly putting the cable from the second machine into the open port on the DS machine. I thought I read somewhere that that was possible to do. I followed the steps on the link below but after I compete the steps both machines have no connection. If this is possible why won't it work? I am now thinking I must use a router to do this which is what I was trying to avoid buying.
http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/help/bfd3bd31-82f0-4b9c-9cde-fb92bc2b14771033.mspx If you know of an easy way to do this without a router I would appreciate the help. Thanks in advance Edited by e06028 - 29 Aug 2009 at 3:41am |

I believe you need to use a crossover cable the rest of those steps are not needed form what I understand, undo all those steps, then just connect the crossover cable then in network connections of the second pc you should see the main pc.

I went ahead and bought a router. I bought a WRT160N by Linksys and it is pretty fast on wireless.
