4 is better than 2. But of course, the "experts" here will have their own opinions.

Hiya again buddy :D

In some instances, a quicker Duo will outperform a Quad, but at the same speeds, the Quad almost always wins.  Given the fact the more and more apps are starting to be multithreaded, I'd buy a quad hands down.  Assuming you have the $$, a Q9450, Q9550, or Q9650 are the best out there, with the Q6600 and Q6700 being the cheaper options.

I'd even recommend one of AMD BE line over a duo at this point, and they processors are dirt cheap these days.

...Now buy/build a PC already, you've been trying to build one for months now dude...Big%20smile

Quad core is definitely the direction more and more games will be taking. It just makes sense since it makes for overall versatility of programs. Besides, people tend to have background apps running even while playing intense games, so it helps to ease the load. Kelly's the pc man! Ermm

People that use quad cores are the types that bought 4x4 SUVs and then never took them off the paved roads.

=)! I love ripping quad core lovers haha.

Fortune magazine had a nice story on multicore CPUs and how they are way ahead of programers and they wont ever catch up. Ill see if i can find it. Here is another story though.

SLC, I don't have a SUV

dual core is for people that just can't let go of the past and enjoy the advances of future.

ofcourse quad core, I will bring an app, you bring a dual core and a quad core, and then watch me embarrass the dual core.

I have a dual core but it can't do what my quad core does

its like apples and oranges. dual is news of the past, quad is the future.

if you want to live in the past go dual.

if you are here today and like to enjoy the advances of today and tomorrow you go quad

its just that simple.

SLC is like that guy that has an old mustang suped up and swears up and down he has be best car.

but take that car on regular roads and you will see it can't handle for crap, where as the new cars will come by and pass that mustang no matter how fast, cause it simply cant' enjoy the advances made in handling, its old news, what did you expect

when you get your quad core, look at your rear-view mirror, who do you see? SLC with his 2 less cores

Really?  There's already plenty of apps programes to use more cores.  Hell, linux already supports up to 256 cores in its kernal.  One of the reasons why programmers don't use multithreaded programming is because Windows does a horrific job of sending indivudal threads to an individual CPU (although Vista is an improvement in this regard).

I'm a programmer, and all of my code has been multicore friendly for ages.  And I can personally tell you, there is a much greater emphasis on multicore programming now then there was even a year ago.

Also note: quads also help because you have 30+ threads for Windows running in the background.

Why buy a Duo and have to upgrade in a year, when you can get a top end quad for only $100-$150 more?
