I want to add a filtering dust jacket (like ShopShield found on computerdust.com) I don't know the pro's or con's of this idea.

The filter is supposedly "breathable" but I assume that the air flow is greatly reduced. I don't want to overheat my computer but I want to extent the longevity of my PC and reduce the amount of time spent cleaning the PC.

What are the best options for reducing any dust accumulation?

I guess it all depends on the size of the holes for the filter.

I didn't think it is healthy for a high performance gaming or editing PC.

What options are available aside from installing a particulate free HEPA filtered "clean room" as the gaming room. I am running a HEPA filter in the room while the PC is running and covering the PC during down time.

I want my PC to last for as long as possible before performing upgrades.

This is my history. What works for someone may not work for someone else.. the old "YMMV" warning stands.

This computer is 10 years old. For the first few years (5 or so) I took the computer apart and cleaned it, top to bottom, with a forced air duster on average every 6 weeks. Now, after 10 years it's a every 6 months or so because I know where the dust gathers and I can keep an eye on it. I would also run all malware/spyware and virus scans when I put it back together.

That has been my maintenance procedure. Would I ever put an external filter on it? No, my area is not particularly dusty but we do have 2 animals. I have not had an issue as the machine is on the desk and not near the floor.

But again, this was me. If you want a filter, you do what you think is best. Personally, again, I wouldn't.

Have a great day.

Keep pc off the floor. Using filters will raise your temps. I have used them for many years and in my experience some of the temps go up some 10C. They help a bit but you still have to open and clean the system every once in a while.

Enjoy and don't worry.

On a related note, a few years ago I put a HEPA air purifier in my office. I got it for allergies, and for wildfire smoke. However, I discovered it has a great side effect: I rarely have to dust my office, and my PC rarely needs to be cleaned. That's something you might consider too.

Using a filtering dust jacket like ShopShield may reduce dust accumulation, but it could also impact airflow and potentially lead to overheating. Consider other options like regular cleaning, maintaining proper ventilation, and placing your PC in a clean environment to extend longevity without risking overheating.
