I've recently purchased a new monitor and really not sure what the best connection for digital video display is that also supports sound. It's really got me confused.

This is my current monitor: http://Dell.U2312HM

It supports:
DVI-D with HDCP
Display Port (DP)

My graphics cards support:
HDMI
DVI
Display Port

Is the cable that comes with the monitor (DVI cable) able to fulfill this task? If not, what cable/adapter would I need to maximize monitor display, graphics, and sound?

Also, would Blu-ray be supported on all these ports?

The DVI cable that came with the monitor should do everything you need quite nicely Big%20Smile

Blu-Ray should be supported over DVI as your monitor is HDCP compliant.

Yeah, all PC users should be using DVI. The only benefit HDMI has is it carries audio as well as video but that's not needed by gamers. HDMI is also limited to only 30fps unless you use the special HDMI 1.4 cables.

The only time you would need to consider HDMI is if you are playing on a single monitor resolution greater then 2500x1600 which is the max resolution for a DVI cable. In most cases if your resolution is higher then that it is because you are using multiple monitors so it won't matter as each monitor will be connected by another cable.

This is because of some new "High Speed" HDMI cables out there that can go as high as 4096x2160 but you will not see a single monitor resolution like that outside of industrial applications.

Display port is for MAC monitors since Mac just HAS to do everything different it possible can and their monitors don't use DVI like every other current monitor on the planet does.

On that point jmaster, how do I get my computer to output audio along with video to my TV? Right now I have to use my computer speakers to watch movies from my bed. Using 2x 570s
