Is there more than one kind of DVI cord? I just bought a belkin 10ft DVI cord from buy.com fro $11 because I wanted a longer one and I just got it today and its a DVI-D dual link cable. The ends are black instead of white and there are more pins on the end than the one I have. What would this type be used for? I havent even tried to plug it in because its obviously different. It was only 11 bucks but Im wondering what its for since it is different than the one I got.

After going to the dell site I see there are many different dvi cables. The one that I had has only18 pins and the one horizontal pin and the one I just bought has 24 pins and the one horizontal. I just tried it and it does fit in my moniter. Does the more pins mean it is better? I guess I will have to wait and see when I get my system with the moniter. Does it matter? Im wondering if the one I just got will work even though the ends look different.

Well the one I just got is called a dual link DVI-D and the one that was plugged in is a single link DVI-D. I wonder if one is better than the other

Ya that article does explain it but it doesnt really say if dual link is better or not. I dont even know if this new dual link DVI-D I just bought will plug into my video card even though it fits my samsung moniter. Oh well I got it pretty cheap at 11 bucks. Still dont know should I use the single link DVI-D cable or the dual link DVI-D cable?

Dual link allows for higher resolutions and higher refresh rates. With single link DVI, you are limited to 1920 x 1060 @ 60Hz.

Thanks, at least I know it wasnt a waste of 11 bucks. Actually it was a pretty good deal for a Belkin 10ft dual link DVI-D after looking around some were at 45 bucks for the same cable. I just need longer cables so I can pull my PC out with out unplugging everything.
