dvi to hdmi connection

Hey,
 
I am wondering if it's possible to hook up a  computer via,  dvi connector on 8800 ultra to a hdmi connector on a 32" plasma tv. I've seen the cables and connectors that would allow this connection, but being as pricey as they are and wanting to avoid taking back to retail store, Has anyone had any success with this type of hookup? Also is it worth the trouble and price to this?  Current connection is    dvi dongle to vga cable to vga connection on tv,  any comments would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

I know they have expensive adapters, but, I believe that would be the best way to go.

The adaptors arent that expensive. A few folks I know have used them with no issues.
