I know one is a dual core and one is a quad core, but is there really a difference  as far as speed gain between these 2 CPU's?

this is between a E8400 and a 965 now if you oc a 920 to 3.2GHz you will get the same results.

a quad core will do just about everything faster then the dual core.

That blue line doesn't move because the CPU is the bottleneck in that situation.  This is the best graph DST4ME could have put up.  Simply put there is no comparison.  The I7 let's your graphic processors fly and you are dependent on them to do the work on your games.

Dude just about everything you say is bologna, are you trying to say that there is 40 fps difference if one goes from tri sli 280 & E8400 on 680i To tri sli 280 & E8400 on 780i/790i? cause if you are then that is the biggest load of bologna I have ever heard.

no mobo jump will give anybody over 40 fps gain in any game, thats just down right funny.

as for E8500:

as for not being able to see the difference, if the x58 and i7 920 gives you 30 fps more then the E5800 at 1600 x 1200, lets say in a game putting you at 40 fps with a E8500, and 40 + 30 = 70 fps with a i7 920, and you can't see the difference there then you need glasses.

there is nothing to bite, get the microscope maybe you can find it

so facts and benchmarks done by creditable sites are silly, yet you and your silly words with not facts to back it up are not silly ay?

since you supposedly know so much about gaming then me, how is it that you don't know that 40 fps is not as smooth as 70 fsp at 1600 x 1200? specially since all you care about is smooth.

Tri sli's point in that benchmark is to show Tri sli, if that is the best Tri sli can do then one can figure what it can do with dual sli and single GPU.

but what does Tri sli have to do with the fact that the E8400/8500 gets owned by i7 920 in just about everything? be it gaming, compression, encoding, etc., etc.

I'll have a little say in this.

I just upgraded from a 2.8 Ghz Dual to a 2.66 ghz 920. The performance difference on my comp (only running a single vid card, 260) was 10 fps in Crysis and 55 fps in oblivion. You can't tell me an i7 isn't better.

Aight so when I filter all this back and forth stuff,it looks like the 920 oc'd would be better than my E8500 stock, but not by leaps and bounds.Tongue

Dayum! Nothing like downing what I have lol. I have the E8500 and 780i board 4 gigs of corsair ram and a GTX285 650 watt psu. Just weighing my options and seeing if it's worth getting a new rig.

If its enough for you then you don't need an upgrade, upgrade when the power you have is not enough for your needs

we discus what these CPUs can do and who is big dog but at the end of the day, if you have no use for the extra power then you have nothing to gain from it.
