I am planning on purchasing my first gaming rig. After perusing the Digital Storm website I came to the conclusion that I clearly lack the knowledge requisite to making a rational purchase. I need to get a basic understanding of computer hardware. Can anyone recommend an appropriate book or website so I could at least get a general idea of about computer components and their functions. Thank you. |

CPU = processor, brain of your system, the speed of your processor decides the speed of everything on your PC.
from scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the most important, the CPU is a 10. GPU = graphic card, the GPU decides pretty much what your experience in the game is gonna be like, the GPU is a 9 or 10. mobo = motherboard, this is what everything sits on, your CPU GPU, etc, mobo gets is an 8. HDD = hard drive, this is what you use for storage of data period, windows, applications, games all get installed in the HDD and the HDD speed will decide how fast windows loads up, searches, how fast apps load up and/or scan. HDD is a 3 or 4. ram = raw access memory, this stores data temporarily and makes it easier/faster for CPU to access info, ram is a 5 or 6. PSU = power unit, this powers the system, what size to get depends on what the system will carry. PSU is a 7 or 8. now if you tell me your budget and the resolution you like to be gaming at or if its not for gaming then what the PC will be mainly used for, I can offer you a config to look at and ask questions about
welcome aboard
