I have almost 1200 hours on Elite: Dangerous.. it is one hell of a game if you're into Space and all that entails. It's got a little bit of everything from PvP to absolute barren exploration for (real time) months at a time.

It's a 1:1 Milky Galaxy that you can explore and live in... you can be anything you want: Fighter, Explorer, Trucker, Fleet Commander, etc etc...

One thing it does have that's a bit of a downside is a hell of a learning curve.

Take a look if Space is a thing for you.

A long, long time ago in a galaxy far away, I treated the original Privateer game in the Wing Commander Galaxy in much the same way you describe for Elite Dangerous. You can bet I've already gotten the game!

Mostly "truck driver'/'Bounty hunter". Did a fair bit of exploring but not anywhere near the dedication of some.

The best part, for those like me who tend to stay away from PvP, is that there are 3 modes to play in: Open - which is as it says, Open, where pirates can take your loot and players can just kill you for fun, to Private - where you and your crew, or any one of the large private groups, can have the whole galaxy to play as they wish, to Solo - Just you and all the NPCs. I personally play on a group server that does everything the Open does except "No PvP". You can RP wars if you want if everyone is consenting but you don't get the 12 year olds who just want to ruin other people's games by ganking. Makes it so much better.

Hmmm. That's about what I always chose in Privateer. Hadn't even considered the dire 12-year-old problem! Thanks for the heads-up.

Just dl and you are not kidding about the steep learning curve. Crazy (never played this game)

One of the best things about the game, and I mean best, is the huge amount of 3rd party sites and programs not officially connected to E:D but supported. From "Voice Attack" (Control your ship via microphone, TOO COOL!) to HCS Voice pack (Have William Shatner or any number of celebrities voice your ship.. Data, Lord Voltan, Holly (Red Dwarf) many others). Hundreds of sites dedicated to exploring, mining, trading, building, outfitting... this is more than a game, it's a bloody way of life for some people.

Thanks for sharing this! Strong I've still never actually downloaded the Epic Games platform or launcher or whatever they call it, however I've grabbed several free games from their website over the years. I have an entire phantom backlog over there that I frequently forget exists. I really need to look at it sometime. Big%20Smile

Pleasure! Since August, I have cherry picked Civ6, Troy Total War, and Railway Empire all free. Now just gotta find some of that... oh what the heck do they call it... ummm.... Oh, yeah!! Time!
