I'm considering the Enix Ultimate system.  It looks like that motherboard will support two SATA 6.0 and four SATA 3.0 devices.  If I have an Intel Series 320 300 Gig SSD (SATA 3.0) as Drive 1 and two 2 Terabyte WD Black HDD's as Drives 2 & 3 (SATA 6.0), will that work?  Any other recommendations?  Thanks

If the system is for gaming, what res you gaming at?

you don't need sata 3 for hdds, as they can't even max out sata 2.

also give me a ticket number for teh build you are looking at.

Thanks for your reply.  I apologize for not knowing much about the current tech.  This will be a general purpose system, possibly doing some video editing, and I may get into some gaming - last serious PC gaming I did was in 1995.  Don't have a ticket yet, because I'm still trying to understand the modern specs - which is where I got the SATA 6.0 thing for those hard drives.  I may be too dumb to ask these questions here, but thanks again for trying to help.

Stop apologizing, this is exacltly why we are here, we know the facts, you guys don't, the net is full of bs info, so we are here to clear it all up.

ok so this is not a gaming machine, are we talking heavy video editing? do you know how much ram you need for that?

I need to know your budget at least so I can config a better system for you cause you don't want the enix IMHO.

After a ten year hiatus from PC's, I got back into them a little in 2005.  Had a top-of-the-line Gateway from that year, but it broke a few months ago.  So, I have no specific ideas of hardware requirements or a fixed budget.  I just want a great new all around machine to play with, and the "quiet" factor of the Enix appealed to me, in addition to some small details like the two PS2 ports.  If I remember correctly, you are a fan of the ODE Level 3 and the more accessible machines in general.  I can certainly appreciate that.  The noise factor of the Beast gaming machines has me a little concerned though.  As you can tell, I'm way short on recent computer experience, and definitely appreciate any and all advice.  Thanks

I'm not a fan of ode 3, I recommend it whenever future upgrade limitations are not important and/or budget is an issue.

personally I'm a fan of a custom build that gives the user what they need without waisting their money.

sound is no issue, in any good built system, 99% of your noise comes from gpu's fan when under load.

so if the gpu is not under full load, you won't have any noise issue. the enix uses a self contained lc system which gets out performed by good air coolers like the a70 and noctua and the h80/h70 self contained lc unints have a loud fan on the rad so that will be most of your noise.

surely you have a budget in mind you like to be around, I mean you want me to give a $5000 system that has full lc and will make no noise or you want a $2000 system that will make very little noise from when gpu's are under load?

also are you saying you have your own ssds and hdds?

No, I don't have my own SSD's or HDD's.  I may try to rescue my old drives by converting them to externals after I get something new.  My 2005 Gateway cost $4000.  That was my usual budget for a system.  Around that same time, not knowing what I was doing, I also ordered a maxed out Velocity Micro system for my son that was about $6500.  It was liquid cooled and extremely noisy.  An unfortunate shipping accident early on turned it into a lemon that they kept trying to repair - finally, they nicely refunded the entire price of the system.  I'm thinking this machine should last me awhile; but, I was really hoping that something in the $2000 - $3000 range would give me plenty of machine to play with.  I would like an i7 since that's the going best, and I've pretty much talked myself into trying an SSD for the boot drive (might be good for faster video rendering too, if I get back into that) - but, I could be talked out of it.  I was also thinking it would be nice to have two identical HDD's so I could have one automatically backup the other.  I know this is pretty vague and not much to go on.
