I was not able to get any assistance nor advice from my other post so I deleted it.
(oh well, no biggie). I'm hoping that someone could help me on this one please!!!My 6 y/old Desktop that I use for Program Testing/Reviews is currently broken to the point of not being able to uninstall/reinstall software! (Trial software or whatnot). I'm getting a new D.S. Desktop really soon and I want the most efficient, lightweight, intuitive, and easy to use AV/Firewall but for reasons above... I can't test those two AV&Firewall Packages for it. I tried to find other forum posts but couldn't find this specific AV/Firewall Setup in question. So I'm wondering if someone on here can tell me what's a better choice: ESET (Smart Security) v4.2 ...or... ESET (NOD32) v4.2 & COMODO (Firewall) v4.1 ??? Also, it seems like ESET's Firewall does not have "HIPS" (Host-based Intrusion Prevention System) or COMODO's equivalent of "Defense+" So does that mean that ESET's A.I.O. only monitors Network Activities and NOT System/Process Activities??? Can someone chime in with their unbiased opinions, please. Thank you guys. |

I use Eset Smart, but speaking about firewall characteristics, it has its pros and cons. You can find a detailed review here: www.best-antivirus.co It's useful and... free! :)

Thanks Vgorkys, its an interesting read but i think they have missed the fact that NOD32 already has Web Browsing and Email Filters (which i always thought should be kept separate and in Firefox or Chrome it self with the use of AdBlock Plus and NoScript, as well as in SPI hardware FW of the Routers) but still, non the less, good read thou.
I still basically went with this separate configuration (COMODO Firewall and NOD32). And it actually seems to work perfect with the least problems that any other combos of AV and FW gave me, plus my 6 y/old PC is running faster then before then it did with Avira. So hey win win for me and whomever else wants to go with this combo of AV and FW. ^_^ Edited by Memento Mori - 28 Aug 2010 at 1:52pm |

Hmm interesting, did it bother you with a lot of pop ups to allow/deny the incoming/outgoing requests or something or did you notice a performance hit with start-up or file opening?
The Older version of Comodo did that to me but this newest one which I think is 4.1 has added a big database of allowed programs and processes, so like it's night and day compared to old Comodo, and I dunno 'cause the "HIPS" function (Defense+) never failed me till this day... I'm just mostly concerned with performance hit, that's all! As I want to keep using it on my really old PC as well as the new DS Rig. Oh! So what is a good alternative Firewall Program then? i got rid of it before that update then, it constantly threw up pop ups while gaming and while starting files, try to install a program that takes you away from the descop like most install`s do and it got stuck while trying to alt tab out to accept it and it would do the same 20 sec later.
it reacts on ALL files being moved indexed or starts in an application so you can find yourself accepting 20+files when starting an application with win7 i feel that it was to much fuzz for little to no gain, it may have received most needed updates i used zonealarm before COMODO and i would say i liked that one much more edit:i have not tried the newest version of comodo so i cant comment on that, its up to each person which program they prefer so if u like comodo go with it Edited by Beezie - 29 Aug 2010 at 4:28am |

Alright, I see, coincidentally I had exactly the same problems that you have experienced before with that FW.
I don't think I ever tried ZoneAlarm. Well I think except once for modding Hosted Lobbies w/ two Ethernet jacks and my Xbox360. But then I came across Horizon360, Modio, PE rc3 and things ummm got out of control in a very good way, okay umm I don't think I should go on. ^_~ |
