This has only happened 4 different times but my monitor will randomly go black while i'm on it (still on) and won't go back to the normal screen so i have to restart the machine. Does anyone know what might be the cause of this?

If this happens very randomly then it'll be very tough to figure.

I would reinstall the gpu drivers or a different one and wait to see if it helps.

If it happens again, try new monitor cable, maybe a different monitor port on the video card.   Plug the monitor into a wall outlet and leave it there until you can determine if it helps or not.

This could be a bad monitor or graphics card.

While it's black, try to see if you can toggle capsLock, NumLock and see if they light up. This will help determine if it's just a video problem or the pc itself.

Good luck Arkansas and let us know.

I updated the drivers on my card and plugged the monitor to the wall instead of the UPS. Will see if it helps. Next time i will try the capslock, numlock deal if it goes black again.

sounds like someone needs a new psu.

if you're sure about your connections and you've ruled out your monitor or graphics card, an old psu with degraded caps could be the issue.

were you up against the recommended wattage to begin with?  have you been pushing the system for a great length of time? oc?  multiple high performance components pushing the system (bitmining, gaming 24/7, benchmarking, etc.)?  do you leave the pc on all of the time? do you blow out the dust frequently?

heat can also be the issue.  make sure all fans are running properly.

do you have multiple peripherals plugged in to the pc?  try disconnecting things like printers and such that you don't need to troubleshoot and see if the problem persists.  if you narrow it down to a peripheral, it could be a driver issue or possibly a usb port on the mobo not getting the power it needs.

if its not a hardware problem could be related to newly installed software or malware.  a corrupted update maybe?   try rolling back your vid drivers to something you know worked and see if the problem continues.  have you checked your system for crash reports?  is the pc still running (you can check this while playing music) during the screen going black or is this a crash?

make sure all of your display settings match the native resolution of the monitor.  running it at a different resolution can sometimes cause this, especially on older monitors and older Windows OS's.  reaffirm the proper input is selected on the monitor as well.

My psu is the Evga 750g2 so the recommended wattage is perfectly fine. I do keep it on 24/7 but i did the same with my last pc (that i bought from here) and it worked great and still is. Heat i can assure you is not an issue. I dust it out pretty much once a month. I recently updated my video card drivers to the newest update after the monitor thing happened for the 4th time so i'll see if that does anything. My monitor's native res is 1920x1080 and that is where it has been since i first turned it on. I only have the peripherals that are needed plugged in. I also do malware checks often and haven't had an issue with malware. I don't do bitmining, 24/7 gaming or benchmarking.

that's a good psu that uses Japanese caps and has a 10 year warranty, but you never know anything can fail (or begin to fail) at any time.

hopefully your driver change did the trick.  good luck with your troubleshooting.

Since iposted on the 27th it hasn't done it again, who knows maybe updating the video card drivers fixed it. I'll report back at the end of the month and give an update or if it happens again sooner.

Well it has been 11 days since first posting and hasn't done it anymore. So it must have been the drivers that i currently had as i hadn't updated them in quite a while. But i guess updating the drivers to the current one fixed the issue. A bit strange imo on why it did that.

So after 16 days, it is safe to say that it indeed was the old graphics drivers that caused the issue. So all is well. Wasn't planning on updating graphics drivers as i always followed the term "If it isn't broke don't fix it" as my nvidia card that is in Captain Sirius Black worked and still does with the drivers it currently has.

Good to hear.  Awesome

An update to the OS, auto graphics update, etc could've corrupted some files.

Have fun.  Big%20Smile

I always upgrade my gpu drivers, but not to newest, to tge latest set known to have no issues by visiting Nvidia forums.
