So, I'm about ready to order my computer (finally).  It's going to be the 965 chip, and 1 or 2 285's (haven't decided yet, but going with the 285 vs. the 295 since Warcraft won't be able to utilize the SLI of 295).  Resolution wiill be at 1920x1200.

I'm trying to decide on the motherboard.  If you aren't using tri-sli (i may sometime down the road pick up another 285, but would be a long time) and aren't using uber-level cooling, I'm unsure of the benefit of the classified.  Plus you get a few frames lower speed.  But it's either the Rampage or the Classified, I think.

either get the EVGA x58 or the EVGA x58 classified, if you are over clocking the classified will help, but if you are not trying to OC it high or push it, the EVGA x58 will do.

Classified would be the real way to go... Board layout is nice and the nb and sb cooling looks like it improved from the standard evga x58.

Rampage will limit your upgrade potential, you can't run tri sli on air with the rampage because of its form factor.

For roughly like 40 dollars or more, you could have 16x16x16. Not to mention the extra pcie slot for a sound card.

I was leaning towards the classified, my only concern was the NF200 chip and latency issues.  I realize obviously that the difference would be minimal, and I'd definitely like to get a faster overclok, so I'll still probably go with the classified.

Heard great things about the classified.  Sounds like the way to go.

I had the same dilemma on my system and after the info found here, the suggestions and more reviews, I went for the evga x58 - considered the classified and even had it on order then I realized, I just didn't want to be beta testing it - new is nice but unknown performance and potential problems steered me away tbh.  If you feel confident about the classified, then by all means go for it :) it's YOUR system after all.

SA, they don't just release the board without testing it, by the time its out, they have tested and everything, there no beta testing after the final release

the beta testers had their reviews out a while ago

its just an improved x58 so if the x58 is fine then the classified will be fine also, actually the classified is suppose to be an improvement of the x58

well I was saying *beta testing* with a hint of sarcasm-  I mean, real world testing - various rams, various vid cards, various drivers, various loads, etc etc - OSes and other hardware and games and so forth are released after *beta testing* and yet it takes RW situations to reveal glitches, short-comings, incompatibilities, blah blah ad nauseum

I just felt more comfortable ordering something that has ben tried and tested in RW loads than something just coming out there

The Classified may come out-of-the-box and work like a charm and more power to them - but sometimes new stuff isn't always so satisfying.

Well yes we all know that, however as I mentioned if the original platform is good then the upgrades are going to be even better.

I'm not trying to change you mind, I just want other readers to understand that I/we don't recommend stuff that we don't know if its gonna work right or not.

You have to go with what makes you comfortable tho and if the x58 is what does it for you then the x58 is the one to go with for you
