Running evga's precision utility to check/setup fans I have a question on manual versus auto. When set to auto the fnas are at about 31% but the card temps are high.
I set it to manual at 50% and it brings down the temps as expected.
  Now the question...
If I leave it on manual and start playing a game, will the fan speed up has the card heats up (automatically) . Really is the manual setting a base start setting or is it a fixed setting until manually changed again.Cry

auto = auto adjust

manual = manual adjust, there will be no auto adjust.

once your temps get to 75 - 85c then your fans will go to full power, your temps are not high unless you are in the 80s

It seems to me the default fan speed is about 35% when one of these cards is idling doing 2-D Windows desktop type stuff. Playing Crysis, my fan speed goes to the 50% -60% range while the GPU temp goes to 70 degress C.

If you have clicked the "AUTO" and the "APPLY" buttons the fan will speed up automatically under load. The manual setting never chages unless you do it by hand.

Thanks as long as manual will not let the card fry 'its a good thing'.
I know the question is really basic BUT i'd rather be safe then sorry on this one.
Thanks again.

well if you set the manual too low then it could do damage. unless you set manual to 100%, auto is the one that will make sure nothing happens

I keep my fans on auto, and it seems to work well. The computer is reasonably quiet when it's idling. While playing games the fan speed goes up. If the temps exceed roughly 80c then the fans run pretty close to 100%.
