Topic: EVGA Precision Posted: 14 Nov 2008 at 9:24am |
Hi all,
I'm a newb, and it seems that I can adjust my fan speed via EVGA Precision, but it also seems like I can OC if I wanted to. I have an xfx 9800gtx+, and am running at:
740 core
1836 Shader
1100 memory
according to EVGA.
Questions, 1) if I mess with this does it void my warranty (adjusting fan speed or other settings)? 2) if not, anyone know how high I can/should set them?
Also, if this requires changing anything else in the PC, I'm not ready yet, but this looked easy, and it'd be my first "tweak".
Thanks in advance.

so do I want to go up 6% at a time, or that's all the increase I should go with? My idle temp is 32 and in game (hellgate london) I saw it up to 43, but people were saying that 80's are ok, is that true with my card as well? Thanks for the link, it was very helpful

i believe it was skyR who mentioned it in the thread, but increase in increments . dont get to agressive , but play with it a little bit. you can only learn from your mistakes. i had mine up to high earlier and ran vantage and my system shut down. i brang it down a bit, and im stable and my temps are good . so fiddle with it, and see what you can come up with. just watch your temps .

well, I went up 6% on the core and shader, and a bit less on memory, played for 30 min, temps never were over 40. Do I want to increase the core/shader (locked) and the memory proportionally, or one more than the other?
I think I have my benchmark vantage score somewhere, I'll play with this and see if it improves at all later. Thanks for the help guys, much appreciated.

so if I run the test each time and it passes, and my temps don't get to 80, I shouldn't wreck anything?

what % over stock is that for you? I ran 3dMark 05, and it looked terrible at one point with the OC, so I went back to stock. I think my + is oc'd from the factory, so maybe I shouldn't go so high?

Stock clocks for a 9800 GTX+ is ~730/1800/1100 so you do not have a factory overclocked card. You can get them pretty high if you have proper cooling and get lucky with a nice chip, ~850/2000/1200

poser.... stock for me is 602/1296/1107 i have mine up to 675/1453/1200 and it runs awesome . thing is . i keep it at stock settings unless im playing a game. if im gunna be playing a game, ill load a profile in precision that has my OC'd settings set, but other then that i keep it stock.

jtspectra2, that is a good way of doing it, rivatuner does the same thing, both are great apps.

Actually OCing a GPU is worth it, especially if you game at high resolutions. OCing a 4870 X2's memory clock by just 50mhz can give you a 10-15 fps improvement.

ok well after about an hour of fiddleing with it and getting BSODs and shutdowns cuase of my card being clocked to high , i finally found a sweet spot. this thing is BLAZING..
anyway for all you gtx280 owners out there. try this 712/1532/1254. seems to work wonders for my card. |

Haven't had too much of a chance to play with it, but when I rand 3DMark05, I noticed that the picture got ugly in one of the more intensive scenes when I had the setting turned up 6%, so I've backed it back down. I thought the gtx+ (which is what my DSO ppwk says I have) is an OC'd card to begin with? Also, would there be a reason to up the core/shader and not the memory, or vice versa. I don't know much about cards, so I don't really know what each component of it is responsible for.

your core and shader are more important then your memory.
for folding for example I only oc the shader and leave the core and memory alone. |

I saw something about folding@home on my ps3, but to be honest, I have no idea what it is, anyone care to explain?
What about for gaming?

folding@home is a program that folds protein which then helps find cures for things like cancer and other diseases.
for gaming you want to concentrate more on core and some on memory |
