So, I would send my rig back to DS and they would install the Mobo for me for that price, plus shipping?

Outside of never using the Tri-Sli feature, what benefit does this board give me over what I have now?

I'd guess that it supports the new Penryn Quad CPUs.

Yeah, I read about that. I suppose you could ask to have a new motherboard cross shipped to you rather than send in the whole system. It seems like a rather large amount of trouble to go to, and I doubt if I would want to bother, but is this going to be a step up option for DSO customers, or is this for retail box purchases only?

Whatever the case, this really shows EVGA's commitment to it's customers. I don't know whether it's Intel or Nvidia that crapped all over their customer base since both have motive, but to see a Nvidia partner step up to the plate and offer to help out the consumers caught in the middle of a display of corporate greed is very nice to see.

I don't think it's so much a commitment to their customers as much as it is them trying to make extra money off of those who don't pay attention to tech news, aka those who got screwed because the 680A1 doesn't support most 45nm cpu's.

I would've waited for the 780 just for the possibility of going SLI down the road but it won't surprise me if these boards have issue right out of the gate.

They're taking boards of any purchase date.... That's a pretty generous offer IMO.

Woah... I partially retract my statement then, I didn't realize it was for anyone and not just those under the 90 days.

For those who have had the board for a while it's well worth the $90 to upgrade, but for those who just recently got it and can't get a refund it still sucks you've got to shell out another $90.

Speaking about the step-up program.

Motherboards are now also included with the EVGA Step-Up program. So if you buy a DSO computer with a 780i or buy it from a retailer, you can step up to a 790i later.

note: The 780i you get from this upgrade promotion does not qualify for the Step-Up program.

What's different about the 790? I haven't seen anything about it yet.

What difference would you see in any game with this upgrade as opposed to where I am right now with what I have.

It's not worth it, no matter what new technology it is, if the point of diminishing return is the limit in the game.   What can I see improving by upgrading?  System ops?  Gaming?  Will it service my wife better than I can?  Will it mow my yard better than I do?  Will it bring world peace to us all and bring the troops home sooner?

think I'll wait on the Nehalem to arrive and go from there. This is a VERY tempting offer.  I could sneeze out $90 for this new board, but I wont be going to tri-sli anytime soon.  That info on the 790 sounds great.  Technologys greatThumbs%20Up

2008's going to be the year for DDR3, 45nm cpu's, USB 3.0, and PCI 2.0 gpu's.

I wouldn't  bother upgrading until video games catch up to technology, and so far the only game that'll probably do that is Farcry 2.
