For the past couple months a rattle coming from my case had gotten increasingly more annoying.  I knew something was loose in there, but every time I opened the case....couldn't locate the culprit.  The sound would come and go and seemed to taunt me by not being there when I went looking for it.

Last night the rattle became suddenly much louder.  I opened the case up and found the top exhaust fan was loose and shaking.  I did a little open-case surgery (FYI - The CM Stacker case is easy enough to take apart.  It can be a pain to put back together).

So after I got the top part of the case off, I was able to see and get my hands in there enough to find that one of the rear retention clips for the fan was loose.  I couldn't get it to sit securely in place any more.  The solution I came up with was to fill in the gaps with some of that sticky putty you use to (temporarily) adhere things to walls, desks, etc....

Voila!  No more noise.  My computer is quiet again.  Well, as quiet as it can be with Stage 3 cooling.  So that's the first Frankenstein repair of my Digital Storm computer.

Anyone have an alternate/better solution?  I don't know how long the putty will last.  It's easy enough to replace when the time comes, but if someone can offer a more permanant fix, I'd appreciate it.

If you are under warranty, what not let DS take care of it?

The fan is not broken as far as I can tell though.  The case also is not broken.  I don't know how a replacement part would make a difference.

I suppose I could shoot them an email and see what is suggested.

I think that is the best case, that way you won't do anything to mess up the warranty either
