Hello, though I am as big of a DS fan as the next forum member I have a huge interest in getting my hands dirty and building pc's from scratch. I was recently able to construct an "above average" (at least it is for me) machine and would like to take it a little further. I have never once experimented with liquid cooling and I'm more so just looking for personal advice or actual product ideas more than anything.
System: 1155 Socket Corsair Obsidian 800d Case (2x) 6970's LC'ing: CPU (2x) GPU's *Possible "dual loop", worth it? I understand the basic principal of liquid cooling but I had no idea there were so many options. I'm sure (like many other pc products) it all comes down to personal choice but if anyone has any information out there (either what I listed or other) please fill me in... *Are quick disconnects worth the time, effort, and money *Is there a performance difference between an internal bay reservoir or the tube shaped? *Is there a performance difference between the different sized tubing? *Radiator brands, some better than others?

quick disconnects are good for easy part removal and possibly draining.
no real difference between reservoirs you mentioned. tubing does make a difference in flow and bend, 1/2 id is choice. yes rad brands and models have big difference, some work well with high cfm fans, some work well with low cfm fans. xspc "rx series" rads are great, they work with low cfm fans, gentle typhoon fans are great for them. for best results keep cpu on one loop and gpus on the other. loop is pump/res/rad/block Edited by DST4ME - 26 Jun 2011 at 9:16pm |

Thanx for all the info! Looking online I've noticed TONS of LC setups online, it sounds like I just need to bite the bullet and start experimenting

OSiRis,
I just recently bit the bullet myself and purchased parts for a second loop for my GPU's. There's a thread on here that DST4ME helped out on. (it wont let me post the link. idk why). its under the Hardware forum, "Expanding Stage 3 LC setup". it may have info to help you out. :) |

im waiting on shipping... i probably wont be able to START for a week at least. and yes, those links are great. i ended up getting nearly everything from Performance-PC, except the gentle typhoon fans. i guess they stopped making them or something, anyway, i had to get them from amazon.

Well good luck and god speed lol, be sure to let me know how everything works out! I dunno if we're allowed to post mods or private builds but I'm sure it'll look sick!

You guys can have pics of your pcs no matter what.
One reason DS is great is the amount of freedom we have here, DS so great that they allow us talk about/help you guys with personal builds/upgrades, and you can post pics, just make sure its not in the config section, that is only for DS stuff.

DST4ME I'm working on narrowing down my parts list and had a question. I no you do not normally recommend the LED fad upgrade here on DS' builder due to the noise, but I could not help but notice that you have a TON on your rig

LOL yes well noise was no issue for me and I was willing to sacrifice a little performance for the looks.
I also went with a rad that works well with high cfm fans, and led fans that are not loud. if you want to go with led fans and they are high cfm then you need a good rad that works well with high cfm, for that you gonna want Hardware Lab's Black Ice GTX series they come in 120mm size/increments and 140mm size/increments,for get the micro line. 120mm rads will use 120mm fans 140mm rads will use 140mm fans my rear rad for example is a hw black ice 420 gtx (triple 140mm rad, not to be confused with the hw black ice 480 gtx which is a quad 120mm rad). so there is your rad but for the fans you are on your own, its a lot of hit and miss with the led fans.
